⚠️ CHANGE to the UK's new electronic visa requirement for American travelers (yes... already).

The new rules lasted for a whole week. After being implemented on January 8, yesterday the UK government caved to the pressure and backed down on the most disputed and criticized part of the requirement.

The requirement now does NOT apply to travelers who are just transiting!

(As long as they're staying airside; AKA not leaving the airport's secure area and not going through customs. So some transits will still require the ETA. Details in the link below!)

They say this quick U-turn is a temporary change and that they will "review" it, but it most likely has been scrapped for good.

Flytrippers will let you know if anything else changes, or when we get a date for the European Union's similar requirement taking effect in 2025 for 29 countries.

Did someone say "fake news"?

🇬🇱 Greenland has never received so much attention, with Trump's threats. So it's the best time to ask... why? Why is it called "GREEN land" when it's literally one of the LEAST green places in the entire world? Why not "WHITE land"?

The story involves Erik the Red. Sidenote: he's the father of Leif Erikson, the Norse explorer who is thought to have been the first European to set foot in continental America; he is apparently the one who, around the year 990, founded the Viking village in Canada, around the year 990.

Erik the Red was banned from Iceland for murder. He founded the first Norse settlement on the island of Greenland and gave it this name in hopes that it would sound more attractive to settlers.

✈️ The world's busiest airport (this week only)!

It's hard to see in this screenshot of air traffic at 2PM Eastern today, but the world's busiest airport (by aircraft movements) for the next week will be in Oshkosh, in Winnebago Country, in the state of Wisconsin.

If you like aviation, it's a unique event: 10,000 planes and 500,000 fans are in town for the world's biggest air show! A plane takes off about every 12 seconds!
