After 42 years of public service, Chris Calkins has finally chosen to hang up his hat. We're going to get together on the 155th anniversary of the Battle at Sailor's Creek to say thanks for all he's done for the park and the community at large. Be there Monday, April 6 to show your support and hear from local historians how the "Father of Civil War Trails" pioneered the way we interpret Virginia's history.

Lots of 154th Anniversary Events going on this weekend--

Nottoway County Historical Association is hosting events today!

And get out to High Bridge Trail State Park​ and Sailor's Creek Battlefield Historical State Park this weekend for more great living history.

The events for this just keeping coming in: Dr. Silkenat will help winding down the program with a Book Talk at The American Civil War Museum - Appomattox, April 13 at 2 p.m. Dr. Silkenat will discuss his book "Raising the White Flag: How Surrender Defined the American Civil War" which provides the first comprehensive study of Civil War surrender. As if you needed another reason to visit ACWM!

Experience the End: The Appomattox Campaign is a cooperative retelling of the last days of the Appomattox Campaign—General Lee's retreat from Petersburg to Appomattox.

Nine partnering organizations bring you closer to the action than ever before recounting the events of March 30-April 14, 1865 on that day in history.

From the breakthrough at Petersburg, to the formal surrender at Appomattox, you can enjoy living history, educational programs, lectures and entertainment brought to you by those preserving the rich history of Virginia and the Civil War.
