As we honor the freedom and independence that define our nation, let's also celebrate the incredible freedom women have to pursue their dreams and passions. Over the past 80 years, women in the US have achieved remarkable progress.

Did you know that before 1974, women often needed a male co-signer to obtain credit?
The passage of the Equal Credit Opportunity Act (ECOA) changed this, allowing women to get credit on their own. Before the passage of the ECOA in 1974, women often faced significant barriers when trying to obtain credit. They frequently needed a male co-signer, such as a husband or father, to access loans, credit cards, or mortgages. Creditors often considered a woman's marital status and would deny credit to single, widowed, or divorced women. This dependence on male co-signers limited women's financial independence and ability to make autonomous financial decisions.

Women's labor force participation has nearly doubled since 1948, and they now earn the majority of bachelor's degrees. At Vision, Quest, Retreats, we are dedicated to empowering women to follow their passions, achieve their goals, and create meaningful impact in their work and lives.

For writer Maya Angelou, mornings were a special time, sometimes marked by a glass of sherry. “I might have it at six-fifteen a.m. […],” she told George Plimpton in 1990, “but usually it’s about eleven o’clock when I’ll have a glass of sherry.” Even without sherry, Angelou got an early start, writing in hotel rooms, even in her hometown. By 6:30 a.m., she was already at her desk. Her early rising and dedicated workspace reflect a broader truth about successful, driven, and creative minds: the early bird really does get the worm.
