Constant Readers: Here is something I think will be a very interesting read by Vincent Neyt.

VN: I just completed my PhD about the drafts of IT, and it's available in open access. You can download the full pdf via this post on my blog:
https://blog.uantwerpen.be/.../phd-turning-the.../
The second chapter is all about the drafts and proofs of IT. The first draft, for instance, included a touching dedication by King to his children that is longer than the published one. My other two chapters are an interesting read also (I hope!), about how King rewrote the text from draft to draft to elevate the suspense. The appendices describe all the notes in the margins of the drafts, from King, from his proofreaders, and from his editor, Chuck Verrill.
I hope you have as much fun reading it as I did writing it!

Are we here already? Today is our last public tour of the season. Everyone is invited to wear a costume but it's totally optional. Jamie and I are going as, well, you'll see.

Have a safe and wonderful Halloween everyone!

Hey, Durham Maine Historical Society - thanks for sharing this!

Stephen King, Author links Durham exploits to life as he lives it

Bangor- Stephen King is leaning against a wall in the hallway when I arrive at his office for our mid-afternoon interview. He is wearing a black shirt, unbuttoned nearly halfway down, dungarees that hang low from his backside and red Converse All Star sneakers with bright florescent green shoestrings. The shoes are well-worn, almost to the point where I wonder if he owned them back in the days when he was selling short stories for $40.

His office is nestled in with some warehouses and other nondescript buildings behind a huge General Electric turbine near Bangor International Airport. In his personal secretary Shirley Sonderegger’s office, where King led me and a photographer for the interview, there is a closed-circuit TV monitor. On the walls are movie posters- “Pet Sematary”, “Cat’s Eye”, Creepshow II”. King sat down on what Sonderegger called “ the couch of confession.” As we talked, he autographed hardcover copies of his novels sent to him by fans.

In the forward to “Night Shift,” his collection of short stories published in 1979, he succinctly answers the question: “Why do you assume that I have a choice?…My obsession is with the macabre...I have a marketable obsession.”

Despite his success, his fame, his wealth, Stephen King is unintimidating. He seems more like the slightly eccentric guy who lives down the street than the master of modern horror. It is hard to believe that this is the man who makes his living sending icy fingers down the spines of readers all over the world.

It was evident that King took pleasure in remembering his childhood days, which were the main focus of the interview. Talking about close childhood friends and evoking memories of his days in Methodist Corners-his old neighborhood in West Durham-brought large Cheshire-cat smiles to his face and he was quick to laugh.

His eyes widened with delight behind his Coke-bottle glasses when he told stories from the past. It’s not surprising; after all he is one of the best storytellers there is …and the best stories arise from real life.

Ha!!! JT just had to remind me that today is our wedding anniversary! He's so lucky. You don't get lower maintenance than this chicky right here!

I love you, Jamie. Thank you for remembering everything for the both of us.

Apparently the King Con was a huge success! No surprises there. It also looks like they might be planning another for 2026! If this happens we will be there!

Where do you want to visit in "Derry"? Or anywhere in Maine really (we love a good roadtrip).

We get it....a lot of you might not get a chance to visit Maine for a lot of reasons.

With the tours wrapping up, JT and I will have some time on our hands.

We'd like to do some FB Lives (warning: we're bad at it) and would love to see where YOU want us to visit!

Let us bring Derry to you! It's cheaper than a tour (free) and you don't even need to get dressed!

Hey kids! The season is officially winding down for us. Technically we consider October 31 the LAST official tour date but as long as the weather stays nice we are going to continue offering private tours for small groups through to mid-December.

We will miss the tours and the King community but Jamie and I do look forward to tucking back into our reading chairs next to a fire and the dogs to get back to our research.

We look forward to hanging out together without being exhausted. We look forward to doing a couple of FB Lives in locations that many of you may never get to visit.

Stay tuned. Follow us. Share. We want to reach as many Constant Readers as we can. It helps keep us moving forward.

What line of SK's makes you laugh every time?

Constant Readers: the average person thinks Stephen King is all horror but we know he's more than that. I love how he can crack me up right in the middle of a nightmare of a scene (I hope I'm not the only one).

Blessed with a gorgeous day and the morning off! Had breakfast with mom while Jamie worked on the pizza oven. LIG.
