Day 7 (part 1) We were up early to witness the crossing of the Arctic Circle- exactly at 7:49am! Magical moment! The tradition on Hurtigruten is for the mythical Norse god (Njord)to come from the sea to visit and dose us in icy sea water- some of us were brave participants & received a stiff Norse drink after! With the beautiful weather we stayed on the outdoor deck and had a festive time of dancing & singing!

Day 6 afternoon & evening: we all fully enjoyed the beautiful weather, exquisite scenery, blue mussels with champagne, music in the evening by the staff and communing with one another~ aaahhh!!

Day 6: A much to short stop in Trondheim where we were greeted by Sven Erik & Inger (Dikke’s sister) and given a special, private tour of the city including a beautiful view point, the hospital (with an interesting discussion about Norwegian healthcare), the gorgeous Nidarosdomen (cathedral), and a brief walk about. We could have used hours more to fully appreciate this northern Norwegian city but we all agreed the most special part was time spent with Dikke’s family! Thank you Sven Erik & Inger!

Day 5: Today Kong Harold cruised into the world famous (UNESCO SITE) Geiranger Fjord. To use words like "stunning", "magnificent" is truly understating the nature we experienced.
When we got to the end of the fjord, 4 in our group did a 7 hour excursion inland to Trollstigen, meeting back up with us who stayed on the boat in Molde. They were enchanted and left speechless by the beautiful nature they experienced. We are trying but our pictures do not fully capture the magic and mystique of this beautiful country!

Day 4, part 2: Goodbye Bergen; late in the day we boarded the Hurtigruten ship, King Harold, for our 6 day adventure to the very top of the world!!

Day 4, part 1: we had yet another beautiful weather day (Bergen is considered the rainiest city in Europe)- Bergen, a UNESCO world heritage site delighted us! As a group, we boarded the Fløibanen and were awed by the views; after that we separated to have our own adventures- hiking, museums, aquarium, the famous fish market, shopping. - fun had by all in the 2nd largest city in Norway!

Day 3- we said good bye to Hotell Bondeheimen & walked to the Oslo Central train station. We boarded the world famous Oslo to Bergen train for a 7 hour ride across Norway. Beauty and joy was experienced by all!

Day 2, part 2: returning by ferry, then hopping on a tram (slight mishap- a few of us missed getting off at our stop, but with the help of some locals, we found our way back- feeling the spirit of the Norwegian explorers with us!), we spent the second half of our day (“days” are endless here in summer in this land of midnight sun!) exploring Frogenparken (including the magnificent sculptures in Vigelandparken!). We ended our day back in city-center- each going our own way to “explore” our own dinner options.

Day 2-part 1: we are enjoying gorgeous weather in Oslo. Yesterday started with a walk to the harbor, a ferry ride on the Oslo fjord to Bygdøy. There we explored the Norsk Folkemuseum, the Fram and the Kon-Tiki museums. From the beautiful (built in the 1200s) Stave church to the courageous & creative explorers in the Arctic and South Pacific, we are easily awed by the ingenuity of the Norwegians! And we are meeting some lovely modern-day Norwegians too that we are enjoying!

We are all here- with all of our luggage!! Adventurers in Oslo ~ after traveling by train from the airport, checking into our hotel, we were off on a tram (by way of a walk through the capitol, bearing witness to a Ukrainian demonstration 🇺🇦)for an evening at Ekebergparken. We enjoyed strolling through the interesting outdoor art exhibit, gorgeous views of Oslo & the fjord, exquisite food, and engaging conversation! Pretty impressive considering most of us had been traveling for more than 24 hours! Aahhh but the sleep was blissful!

Norway 🇳🇴 2024 here we come! We have not traveled since before Covid and we are excited to say thanks to the exquisite planning of Erik we are on the road again. Dikke is in Oslo preparing for the group’s arrival and Tina will come with a contingent from the Cape on Sunday, June 9. Watch this space and for regular updates of our adventures!
