The Big K and I love to travel. We love seeing new places, sometimes re-visiting favorites. We always look forward to trying out different local cuisines, even if it means not eating for a month before and after a trip to compensate for the weight we definitely will be gaining. We love meeting new people and making friends. We love lea

rning different cultures and how they make the people we meet so much interesting. We started this blog to share our travel and food adventures. And for us to reminisce all the wonderful memories when we're old and gray.......

An unplanned day trip turned out to be the highlight of our Osaka visit. Just an hour away from Namba, you’ll find a temple set amongst lush foliage, a mist-covered bridge spanning a pond filled with koi fish and thousands of kawaii Daruma dolls. The red dolls were modeled after the founder of Zen Buddhism and is a talisman of good luck for the Japanese.

🎶 Baby, it’s cold outside. I’ve got to go away 🎵 Singing this song while getting ready early in the morning for our walk up Mt. Inari-san where Fushimi Inari-taisha, the head of all of Japan’s Inari shrines is located. The shrine is dedicated to Inari, the deity of good harvest and success in business. It is popular both to locals and tourists so it’s best to visit early in the morning or towards the evening to avoid the crowds. ❤️🇯🇵

The next day the big K and I were on a 45-minute bus ride to Kamigamo Jinja, one of the oldest Shinto shrines in Kyoto and a Unesco World Heritage Site. Since the shrine was a bit of a trek outside of the city, it wasn’t as crowded as some of the ones inside Kyoto city.

After a quiet and peaceful visit, we were back in one of Kyoto city’s famous geisha district, Gion. Talk about tourist central, this was it! Best to visit this place either early in the morning or late at night.

Nishiki market in downtown Kyoto is a 400-year old covered shopping street with over 100 stalls selling all kinds of goods and food items.

Walking towards the Kamo river you’ll find Pontocho-dori, a narrow alley filled with traditional shops and restaurants.
