It’s time to start posting about the fun happenings in and around our King William neighborhood as well as San Antonio! And what better kickoff than an interesting tidbit about the origins of Fiesta!
We had a cancellation for a couple of the Fiesta dates so take a peek at our calendar and see if the open dates work for you!

The birth of Fiesta San Antonio, the spring event that has come to define San Antonio, can be traced to 1891 and a horse-drawn parade.

Fiesta is a huge event in San Antonio. This year it will be pushed back until November in hopes that the current situation with COVID-19 has passed. It’s a smart decision from our city leaders.
Viva Fiesta!

Fiesta draws hundreds of thousands of people to downtown San Antonio annually and generates more than $300 million for the local economy. Fiesta includes several major parades and dozens of satellite events put on by nonprofits.

***UPDATE*** They’ve announced their opening date will be Jan 23rd!

Well this is ahMAZEing! Of course we want to tiptoe through the tulips! This farm is located about 20 minutes away. Due to a short growing season, the tulip farm is open in Feb and March. The opening date has yet to be announced.
Great photo op’s!

A giant tulip field is coming to the San Antonio area and it’s expected to open next month.

It’s almost time for the Turkey Trot ya’ll! A fun 5k that winds through the King William Historic neighborhood and benefits San Antonio Food Bank. The race begins at 8:30am and we’re boxed in for about an hour but grab a cuppa and head to the corner and cheer on the runners! Lots of fun and crazy costumes.

You know... there are days where you just want a good meal and you don’t want to cook it but you also really don’t want to do anything else other than watch ...(fill in the blank). My absolute go-to place for these days is ordering “to-go” from Liberty Bar. Go and order a glass of wine at the upstairs bar while you wait... take home your prize (for me it’s their homemade fettuccine with thyme and garlic... if the day is particularly harsh then add a piece of salmon to top it off). It is literally steps from the front door.
We have amazingly good food and boozy options within walking distance to suit any mood!

Over the years, the various Fair committees have chosen to recognize a few ‘gone but not forgotten’ King William residents who have left an indelible imprint on our neighborhood.

Pat Sodke, the namesake of “Pat’s Pub” on Johnson and King William, was the King William Fair beer chair for about five years and before that he was co-chair with Frank Emmett. Sadly, he died unexpectedly in 1995 at the young age of forty-four.
-
Pat's Pub Stage is sponsored by Alamo Beer. So, swing by the intersection of King William and Johnson and jam out to some of SouthTown's favorite local bands and choose your favorite locally brewed Alamo Beer.

The 2019 King William Fair Parade will honor the history of its historic neighborhood by allowing entries to tell their version of "Who is King William?" The stories will include the history of the land, stories of the people who built and lived in the historic homes, the businesses that support our historic neighborhood and most importantly, the people who have created the King William community in which we all have grown to love.

The Parade steps off on E. Guenther at Eagleland, the Parade travels through the Fair Zone, and ends on Adams at Eagleland. The Parade route is 2 miles long and lasts approximately 90 minutes.
Viewing is available along the total length of the Parade route.Free viewing located on Adams Street in between Pereida and Eagleland Dr. and on E. Guenther Street in between S. Alamo & Eagleland Dr.
