September is our favorite month to be in Mexico. It is jam-packed with celebrations and festivities. The biggest of which is Mexico’s Independence Day on September 16. San Miguel de Allende and nearby Dolores Hidalgo are the most popular destinations for these festivities because they are considered the ‘cradle’ of the independence movement. Visitors from all around Mexico come to celebrate their history and patriotism.

It's amazing to witness the vibrant, exciting, and explosive displays. San Miguel de Allende is known for fireworks, but this is the grand-daddy of the yearly fireworks displays. If you don't do well with crowds, you might not want to be in the Jardin during El Grito as it is packed with tens of thousands of people sardined together until everyone starts filtering out after the fireworks are complete. We generally leave just before El Grito begins and then watch the AMAZING fireworks display from the terrace at our house or a friends house. You won't be disappointed.

Here are just a few events to be aware of:

TUESDAY 11 & WEDNESDAY 12
20:00 Hours / Theater Ángela Peralta
Presentation of the "LIFE AND WORK OF DON IGNACIO DE ALLENDE".

SATURDAY 15
Reenactment of liberation of prisoners
22:55 Hours / Entering the street of San Francisco, to arrive at the house of the Generalissimo Don Ignacio de Allende and Unzaga

El Grito/Cry for Independence
23:00 Hours / Balcony of the House of Generalissimo Don Ignacio de Allende and Unzaga

23:15 Hours / Jardin
Fireworks!

SUNDAY 16
Various Independence Day festivities throughout the day such as parades, dancers, etc.

Reenactment of the arrival of the Insurgentes
18:00 Hours / In front of Municipal Palace

Ballet Folklorico
21:45 Hours / Jardin.

23:00 Hours / Jardin
Fireworks!

Picking a school for your child can be one of the hardest decisions for a parent. In some ways, it's even more challenging when you are living abroad. Here is some more information about our experience with Siglo XXI and also our experience with the newest bilingual school in San Miguel de Allende, Colegio NWL. Why we chose it and why we like it... so far.

Most parents set out to give their kids a well-rounded education, although the philosophy and approach will vary …

No doubt about it, San Miguel de Allende, Mexico is a hot spot for visitors from around the world. More and more families plan to visit or move here. Some of these families worldschool, homeschool, or send their kids to local schools. We've done all of the above during our 3 and a half years in San Miguel de Allende. Here is a little about our experiences at Victoria Robbins and Siglo XXI. We're just getting started at Colegio NWL (Newland).

Upon arriving in San Miguel de Allende way back in the day (2015), it was just going to …

Hahaha! Unfortunately, I think that friend is me. More than once I've gotten us into some seriously long "walks" in the worst of conditions. In the same way that I've proclaimed that we would re-landscape our own darn backyard (took us 4 months of hard physical labor) and re-paint the exterior of our 2-story house (thanks to the generous help of 10 of our closest friends). And, heck, why not sell our house and all of our belongings so we can travel together as a family?

Perhaps I am a bit over-willing to volunteer us for a challenge, but at least we've proven to ourselves that we're able to rise to most of those challenges.

I'd love to see that happen
