I cannot believe I am finally writing this post – I am a GOLD Travel Counsellor🥇 It has taken me 12 years, a pandemic where I lost it all and a huge bounce back to get me here.

I never thought it would happen until I threw everything at it and got myself over the line.

Being Gold has been a goal since becoming a Travel Counsellor, it felt so out of reach for years but with all of your support and as my experience has grown both from a business and travelling perspective, here we are.

I have been in travel 25 years now, I was 16 years old when I started at Thomas Cook in Penrith, I had the best mentors in the ladies there who made me fall in love with travel and a quarter of a century on I love it more now than ever. I have never travelled as much! Being a Travel Counsellor has given me so many opportunities to see the world and all the while pass that knowledge on to you for your own travels.

Thank you to all of my clients who I am lucky to call friends! Some of you I have booked from the good old Club 18-30 days right through to your somewhat more cultural Italian adventures! For some of you I have booked your honeymoon, babymoon, first family holiday right through to big family adventures and 50th celebrations. I have watched corporate clients soar and I know a lot of your passport numbers off by heart .

I have an amazing group of other Travel Counsellors Charlotte, Ollie, Laura, Lisa, Merv and Sam what would we do without each other? Mandy my admin assistant I would be lost without you now. My friends are my cheerleaders thank you so much for saying my name in the room when the conversation turns to travel especially those who recently have known this was in my sights ❤️ for EVERYONE that said you should call Nat, thank you.

I realise you always have the choice where to book your travel and I am grateful that so many of you think that with me is the right one. In a world where the internet makes it so easy for you to cut me out, it seems there are those that still prefer that personal touch so thank you from the bottom of my heart.

I know this isn’t the Oscars but to me it is, I am really proud of myself and I am proud of the business I have built and that’s not always easy to shout about, but today I will allow myself the pleasure to do so. Thank you to my family, I am sorry I always make you go on holiday but look what mummy did 😊Kev, you have supported me always thank you for being more of a travel snob than me, I am going to take you to some place real nice.

And it doesn’t stop here it just makes me want to stay Gold and do more and I hope you will stay on that journey with me because you are officially booking with the best.

I'm posting about this as I am increasingly being asked what I think of online travel agencies and whether you should consider them for a side hustle.

My first response is, a side hustle it is not. Of course it's all fun when all of your friends are booking holidays and you can see the earning potential, but the part of a true agent is someone who can prove their worth through pandemics, airlines failures, ash clouds, epidemics and conflict to name but a few I have seen in *coughs* 25 years! Someone who will rebook your cancelled flight without you lifting a finger, someone who knows aircraft configurations, where to go when and advise you on inoculations, visas and passport validity... the list is endless!

As customers you need to trust someone who has the right experience with your hard earned money. Know where your money is going and what happens to it should the world and all of its issues decide against your plans.

Things can go wrong, it's scary and mistakes are costly so you need to make 💯 sure you are covered.

Around 35% of the travel I book is for corporate clients that travel further afield to attend meetings, events and conferences. Clients use me to manage travel arrangements for their employees and assist with last minute changes and requests that are all too common when travelling for work but a pain for businesses to sort out themselves.

The My TC app provides all travellers with an easy app to mange their trips and documentation so everything is in one place. I check in all all clients and load boarding passes into the app to take away tedious tasks such as this from you.
