Prepare:

Beginning January 8, 2025, all US passport holders will need an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) to enter the UK. An ETA is a required pre-travel authorization for non-visa nationals entering or transiting the UK. It costs £10 and you can apply online or via the UK ETA app.

In addition to the UK's new ETA, the EU will introduce the European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETAIS) in 2025, affecting US travelers among others. The ETIAS will be required for entry into the Schengen Zone, focusing more broadly on European travel.
