Do I need to walk fast? You don’t have to be a fast walker, but you should enjoy walking at a good pace. Each tour is really not a difficult walk - no stairs to climb but there may be some steep roads. We will stand for up to ten minutes at one time with no seating available, so good comfortable shoes are recommended. Each tour typically covers roughly 1 walking mile per hour. Please be mindful that the tours are presented as a conversational "show and tell," so there may actually be more standing then walking. How long is the Tour? The tours are either 90 or 150 minutes - sometimes shorter, but typically up to 10 minutes longer, depending on the number of people on the tour and/or traffic on the streets. Questions and conversations can also make the tour go longer than expected. If making brunch, lunch or dinner plans, best to give yourself a margin of 30 minutes for a reservation. Same goes for the twilight tour which runs approximately 75 minutes, but may go over. What if I'm late to the Tour? Please note that each tour leaves promptly at designated starting time and it will be difficult to join if you're late. We recommend that you arrive at least 10 minutes before the start of the tour. Remember to allow extra time for finding public parking or if taking public transportation. What about parking? There are several public parking lots around town, but street parking is usually available within two blocks of the meet place. Because some tours may end up to four blocks away their starting point, you may want to consider parking at the end point of tour (location provided at time of purchase) or halfway between the start and end locations. How should I prepare? Due to our desert climate and intense sunshine, it is highly recommended that all tour participants apply sunscreen and/or put on a hat before arrival. Also, it is very important to be properly hydrated and to stay that way, so please drink at least 8 oz. water just prior to the tour and plan to bring enough to quench your thirst along the way. How should I dress? We suggest that you dress very casually and appropriately for the actual weather. Dress in lighter colors if possible and wear comfortable shoes (remember, you will be doing a lot of standing) - the tour is outdoors and Palm Springs is typically sunny so a cap or hat is recommended as are sunglasses. To make your tour as pleasurable as possible, try not to carry more than you need. Any suggestions to optimize the tour experience? Be sure to mute cell phones prior to beginning the tour. It is important for you and everyone on the tour not to be distracted during the walk. This is a rare opportunity to allow yourself time to connect with your surroundings, to listen to the tour guide and to reflect amongst your fellow participants. Consider it a "mini vacation” away from anything electronic. Are the tours appropriate for children? Each tour is designed for adults or young adults with an interest in history, architecture and/or celebrities/icons of the past. NOT recommended for those under the age of 13. The tours are lighthearted but factual and the content is relatively sophisticated yet informal. May I bring my well-behaved dog? While we like furry friends, unfortunately no animals are allowed on the walk unless a licensed service dog on a short leash. Copy of license must be present. Will there be restrooms available on the walk? Sorry, there are no public restrooms during the walk but there may be restrooms available in the coffee shop or meeting place at the start or end of the tour. Do I need to tip? We never ask for a tip, but at the end of the tour, a tip is appreciated if you think you received a quality experience above and beyond the tour price! Extreme Weather/Natural Disaster Policy:
Tour is cancelled only in cases of heavy rain, strong wind, or forecasted temperatures exceeding 96ºF or below 40ºF at scheduled start time. A decision to cancel the tour (if necessary) will be made one hour prior to the tour. Call 760-567-4696 to inquire status within two hours of scheduled tour. What if I need to cancel my reservation?
