The Bimmah Sinkhole, also called the Hawiyyat Najm, is a water-filled depression in the limestone. It is just off the highway to Sur, few kilometers before Tiwi.

The local municipality has developed a fenced and toilet-equipped park around it, called the Hawiyat Najm Park.

There is a stairway leading down to the hole. It is very easy to swim in these turquoise clean waters! However, it is advised you wear modest clothing.

The sinkhole was formed by a collapse of the surface layer due to dissolution of the underlying limestone.

Locals used to the shape of a water well was created by a meteorite; hence the Arabic name Hawiyyat Najm, which means "the deep well of the (falling) star".

Distance & Time from Muscat : 125 km / 80-90 minutes
