🚨🚨🚧 Streetopia is happening this weekend! 🚧🚨🚨

What's Streetopia? It's the street festival that we host in Observatory every year. It's a snippet of what the main annual event feels like, without the week-long commitment and flat tyres. Streetopia has been a City of Cape Town Special Event since 2016 and aims to promote a safer street culture for everyone, using creativity.

What is MOOP? Leave No Trace? MOOP = Matter Out Of Place

One of AfrikaBurn's tenants is the Leave No Trace policy. Which is the goal of having no or minimal impact on the environment. Our event takes place in one of the harshest yet most finely balanced biomes in South Africa and it’s our duty to keep it in balance.

Participants are expected to take everything back with them when they leave.
MOOP, Matter Out Of Place is seen as anything not from the Tankwa environment. It is our Civic Responsibility to keep this environment as clean and undamaged as we possible can.

This means:
Cigarette "stompies" (butts), GLITTER, glow sticks and glow stick connectors, tent stakes, bottle caps, ashes (yup!), duct tape scraps, wood debris, matchsticks, orange peels, pistachio shells, boa feathers, rope fibres, sequins, false eyelashes – even abandoned bikes…oh, and did we mention the stompies (cigarette butts) and cable ties are all MOOP. This includes Organic Waste as well.

Everything we bring, we take back with us. This includes all recycling and organic waste as well. This is a tenant upheld by everyone at AfrikaBurn.

We ask participants this year to do their best in keeping our little nook of the Tankwa MOOP and waste free!

Glitter and face jewels are a big NO at AfrikaBurn. They're a nightmare to clean up and leave tiny bits of plastic (MOOP) strewn all over the desert. The only thing we can guarantee 100% at AfrikaBurn is that you look absolutely amazing without them.
