We just love our nautical little Storm Cottage! We've worked so hard over the last 18 months to create the perfect little get away for our guests, celebrating and embracing everything there is to offer in this enchanting part of the country..from its rich industrial and agricultural history, the rugged north-east coastline, it's quirky little fishing villages, the hustle of the tourist spots, and the magic of the stunningl North York Moors. Being born and bred locally means we are always on hand to be able to give the best recommendations and advice to our guests, and even better to be able to recommend and promote local businesses.

We absolutely adore our little bolthole..but even more we adore being able to give our guests the best experience we can, providing all the little extras which make their stay that little bit more memorable.

🚜🐂🐷🐑Agricultural Shows! 🐑🐷🐂🚜

Living in such a beautiful part of the country means that not only is Storm Cottage based right by the beautiful, rugged North East coast, but we are also surrounded by stunning countryside and the magnificent North York Moors National Park.

One of the highlights of the social calendar are the many local Agricultural Shows on our doorstep and the surrounding area!

So if you'd fancy a day out that involves celebrating the finest farm animal displays of cows, sheep, pigs, horses, goats and poultry, or marvelling at fantastic horse displays and show jumping, or maybe celebrating the local farm produce and baking is more your thing then a local Agricultural show will definitely be up your street! You can also buy from one of the many craft stalls, buy lovely produce to take home with you, and eat from one of the many eateries! Or if the weather's nice indulge in a nice cold pint or an icecream!

We're blessed to be based near many of these local Shows, surrounded in beautiful countryside..so we thought we'd list them here for our guests and any future guests to see!

Bronson enjoyed a lovely walk around Whitby Abbey at the weekend! We decided to call in at Botham's of Whitby and buy some of their delicious freshly made stotties and grabbed some drinks and other lovely bakery delights and had the most lovely picnic in the stunning and haunting grounds of Whitby Abbey !

Highly recommended to any of our guests who pop into Whitby for the day..plus whilst you're there you could also visit Whitby Brewery just opposite to enjoy one of their nice, cold, home brewed beers! 🍺

Bronson (and us!) had a lovely day!! And all less than half an hour away from Storm Cottage in the car, or on a direct bus route if you fancy having an extra couple of beers! 🐋 🩵

It's Good Friday today and it's tradition in our household to have fish and chips! So on that basis we'd like to support our local chippy, Carlin How Fisheries, who are situated only a minutes walk up the road from us at Storm Cottage! 🐟🍟🍴

We get so many lovely comments about Carlin House Fisheries left in our guest comments book from our guests, all highly recommending them to future guests. With an extensive menu, friendly staff and very tasty..we also can't recommend them enough!

And we ensure there's always plenty of salt, vinegar and tomato sauce in the cupboards at Storm Cottage incase you need extra on! 😋

We have alot of families stay with us at Storm Cottage, and one of our favourite things is when the children leave us a review or a picture etc. Children are always incredibly blunt and just say it as it is, so there's always a hint of trepidation when we start to read a review off a child! 😁

Spring has most definitely sprung at Storm Cottage on todays changeover! How beautiful does our little front garden look, and there's so many plants still to come through and bloom! 🪻🌷🌻🌺🌸

We received a lovely message off one of our guests the other day. He had been walking the Cleveland Bay and staying at a different place each night with his family and he said:

We are so incredibly lucky that in our second year of opening our doors at Storm Cottage, that we are nearly full up for summer 2025!

We've had an influx of bookings lately, and even better some absolutely fantastic reviews and feedback and we can't thank you all enough. We put our heart and soul in to making Storm Cottage a warm, welcoming, fun and affordable place to stay whilst exploring the fantastic North East rugged coastline, and stunning North York Moors.

Being dog owners ourselves, we often take our dogs away on holiday with us, so we've tried to accommodate as best we can within our own little holiday let at Storm Cottage.

𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝘽𝙪𝙣𝙠 𝘽𝙚𝙙 𝙍𝙤𝙤𝙢! 🌊🏡

This is our second bedroom at Storm Cottage, lovingly decorated in a nautical theme and really embracing our stunning coastline! With lighthouses on the walls, and puffins on the blind we really have created a lovely, welcoming, playful yet restful place to lay your head after a busy day adventuring!

Sleeping upto two people on full size single bunks, this room has plenty of storage still for clothes and a TV with Amazon Firestick to catch up on your favourite shows.

With lots of our guests being families that visit, we've added a small bookshelf full of children's books (including some locally based ones!) and a toy box full of toys to entertain the children whilst parents are busy unpacking. We've also included coloured pencils and paper and we LOVE it when our younger guests leave us pictures as a thank you! 🫶

This room has such a cool, fresh, nautical vibe to it making it perfect to relax in after a busy day exploring the north-east coast. With plenty of information leaflets, our own local knowledge of places to visit in our extensive welcome folder, a cupboard full of board games to enjoy a family games night, and some doggy treats for your furry family member it really does have all you need to enjoy your stay at Storm Cottage!

We provide lots of books which are all based, or set around the local area. We also provide lots of maps, walking booklets and print out local walks so that guests can make the most of exploring the North East Coast whilst staying with us. With fresh flowers in the room, and a view out of the window into our lovely, little cottage garden..we really do try to bring the outside in! 🐋💙

All of our guests mention our decor and how lovely, quirky and nautical it is...there really is nowhere quite like Storm Cottage! 💙

🏡🌊 𝙎𝙩𝙤𝙧𝙢 𝘾𝙤𝙩𝙩𝙖𝙜𝙚! 🌊🏡

We've had lots of lovely new followers lately, loads of new guests and we've spent the weekend doing a few touch ups in the cottage, so we thought we'd take the opportunity to introduce ourselves to anybody new and also add some new photos!

So let's start off with the introduction! 👋

We're Paul and Clare, and we bought 52 Maynard Street in May 2023, and at the time it was already let out as an Air B&B under the name 'Lilac Cottage'. We eventually got the keys on 1st October 2023, and quickly went about putting our own stamp on the cottage and transforming it into the cottage all our guests know and love today... Storm Cottage! 🐋🩵

We're both passionate about our local area, with both of our families living locally for generations, infact farming locally for almost 300 years!

Clares dad is a farmer from Roxby (13 minutes from Storm Cottage) and her mum is originally from Brotton (4 minutes away). Paul's dad is originally from Skelton (8 minutes away) and his mum from Hinderwell (13 minutes away) but both now farm at Loftus (5 minutes from the cottage). We both attended St Joseph's RC Primary School in Loftus at different times and both brought up our own families locally too. Paul's paternal grandfather was the local doctor for many, many years (Dr Stevenson of Skelton) and Clares maternal grandfather worked locally at Lumpsey Pit, ironstone mining.

Paul has farmed his whole life, now running his own Agricultural Engineering business repairing and restoring tractors. He has a keen interest in local history, heavy metal music and going on charity tractor road runs 🚜 Clare runs her own care and home help business and is also training to be a counsellor. She enjoys local folklore tales, the countryside, reading and going on adventures. We have three children between us, and two dogs (Bronson and Dobby) and we use these experiences of taking them on holidays in the past to influence what we provide for others in our own quirky little holiday let.

We are both very proud of where we come from and the rich heritage of the North East Coast and North York Moors, and we hope that this knowledge and passion is shown in our holiday let. We love to promote local businesses, share our knowledge about the local area and teach our guests about this wonderful part of England.

We hope our local knowledge helps give our guests the very best of stays with us! 🩵💙
