A quirky, nautical retreat in an old miners cottage near to Skinningrove.

We were very saddened to hear of the tragic passing of young local boy Billy Maskell just before Christmas, who tragically passed away at the age of 14. There's one thing about living where we do though, and that is that when tragedy shakes the community they always come together in force to help support one another.

A number of people have helped to raise money for young Billy's family during what is undoubtedly the most painful times of their lives, and we too hope to support them.

We have arranged with Beverley Bainbridge Harland to raffle off a stay with us at Storm Cottage!

£5 per number and the chance to win a two night stay!

- 25 minutes drive to the glorious North York Moors Railway at Grosmont for a trip on the Steam Train.

🎄🎅☆*~ It's (nearly!) Christmas!!~*☆🎅🎄

Sorry we've been so quiet at Storm Cottage lately, Clares been poorly for quite some time now, and with juggling work, cottage and family ill-health it's been full on! We've been putting all our efforts into making sure our guests have the best stay with us and neglected our social media page...but we're back!!

We're very lucky to once again be full up all over Christmas and New Year, and today we've been sprinkling a little bit of Christmas Magic over Storm Cottage! ✨️

Our little Christmas Tree is adorned with beautiful decorations by local artist Jessica Hogarth and are simply beautiful! Guests who have previously stayed with us will recognise some of Jessica's work on our Whitby Townscape tea-towels in Storm Cottage! 🎄🎄

Our other beautiful tiny Christmas Tree is handmade out of locally sourced Sea Glass and is extra special. We purchased this tree last year, as all proceeds from the sale were donated to Target Ovarian Cancer in memory of a very special local lady June Mead who sadly passed away after bravely battling Ovarian Cancer. June taught both Paul's children and my (Clare) child during their reception years at St Joseph's RC Primary School at Loftus and was extremely well thought of amongst the whole community. A wander around Whitby this morning, just 25 minutes in the car from Storm Cottage. This weekend Whitby is hosting Goth Weekend, and we've spotted some magnificent outfits!
We decided to pop into Pescado Lounge for breakfast and honestly can't recommend the food enough! 😋

We've had a busy half term week with guests in every single night, but tonight is Halloween! We've got two children staying with us tonight so we thought it only right we leave them some spooky Halloween treats whilst they stay with us!

Fresh flowers in Storm Cottage today, just in time for Halloween! We always provide fresh flowers in our lovely little holiday cottage, it just makes it feel so lovely, homely and welcoming.

We have some lovely returning guests coming to stay with us at Storm Cottage today...we hope they enjoy their welcome pack! Aswell as these lovely treats, we also provide milk, tea, coffee, sugar, condiments and lots of added little extras!

We love spoiling our guests! And how great is it that we've only been open a year and already have returning guests..in fact one set of guests have visited us 5 times so far! 🫶💙

The annual Whitby Christmas Festival will be held this year from Friday 15th until Sunday 17th November!

Only 25 minutes in the car into the heart of Whitby, or we are on a direct bus route! Why not come stay with us and make the most of the festive activities and do some Christmas shopping, grab some mulled wine and some lovely street food! 🩵

These lovely guests who recently stayed with us were visiting the area to visit their wedding venue at Rushpool Hall near Saltburn, just 7 minutes away from Storm Cottage in the car. Since opening we've had a number of guests stay with us who have been visiting the area for weddings, something we always try to accommodate for by offering early check-ins and late check-outs if its possible. ⏰️

𝗧𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗽𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗲 - a lover of the ocean 🌊 Cattersty Sands at Skinningrove was looking particularly beautiful on my little morning walk! 15 minutes walk from Storm Cottage or just 3 minutes in the car. We recommend all our guests to grab some fantastic homecooked food and a pint whilst you're at Skinningrove from KasKane. Or Skinningrove Village Hall 2022 onwards do a fab cooked breakfast on a morning at a really reasonable price. Sheilas General Store is a fantastic little family run shop to grab any essentials you need aswell as some treats and local memorabilia. And last but not least we advise all our guests to visit the fantastic Land of Iron to learn all about our industrial heritage and to take a guided tour into the mine shaft.

🚶‍♂️🚶‍♂️ₜₕₑ Cₗₑᵥₑₗₐₙd Wₐy🚶‍♂️🚶‍♂️ The Cleveland Way National Trail is a 109 mile (175 km) walking route through beautiful and ever-changing landscapes and scenery. Starting from the attractive market town of Helmsley, the Cleveland Way heads across the inspirational, and breathtaking heather moorland of the North York Moors National Park, before reaching the coast at Saltburn-by-the-Sea (less than 10 minutes in the car from Storm Cottage). From here it’s a visual feast along the North Yorkshire coastline to Filey, passing old fishing villages such as Staithes and Runswick Bay and lively coastal towns such as Whitby. Storm Cottage is perfectly placed for anyone walking the Cleveland Way. The perfect place to seek a warm sanctuary, rest your weary feet, rustle up a hot meal and relax in a comfy bed for the night before setting off on your next leg of the walk. Or guests can join the Cleveland Way at Skinningrove, less than a ten minute walk from the front door and explore some of its breathtaking views during their stay. Walkers, ramblers and hikers alike are all welcome at Storm Cottage and we provide a rang of walking materials, including OS Maps, guidebooks and recommended walking pamphlets produced by Loftus Accord Walking Group.
