In 1981 while working with an herbalist, before the label "aromatherapy" became a part of popular culture, I realized that each herb and flower has its own special visual and sensory quality. And that along with this, scent has the power to stir memories, soothe, calm, and touch upon the emotions. Playing with botanicals and combining scents became a way to put these elements together. I develop m

y potpourri recipes based on inspiration of a color combination, a word, a scent, or a mood. “Clarity,” for example, was inspired by crisp clear colors and fragrances. “Joy of Life” is comprised of brightly colored flowers and herbs, with a scent that is uplifting. "Dreams" is light and airy, delicate, with soft colors and soft scent, with its own dreamlike quality. The goal is to create a delightful sensory experience. While most commercial potpourri is laden with large pod-like botanicals and woodchips dyed to look like real flowers, I've always kept my blends pure. I use real flowers and herbs with their natural colors in my blends. Nothing is artificially colored, there are no dyed woodchip fillers or fake perfume-y scents. Many pure essential oils are used in their creation, and I strive to make the aromas natural and refreshing. And I've always avoided using large pod-like ingredients used by many modern potpourri companies which only serve to bulk up potpourri and add nothing to the quality and longevity of the fragrance. Place it around the house in decorative bowls, baskets, and sachets. Put it in sachets in drawers to scent clothes, or in musty closets and furniture to create a nice fresh scent. For a great smelling ride keep sachets in your car! You can even use my potpourri to simmer on a stovetop, especially nice during Autumn and Winter. The Herb Lady potpourris last anywhere from two months to many years, depending on how they are used and the environment they're in. I offer matching refresher oils for them all, so you can make them as strong as you like whenever you want. "Virtual smell" may never become a reality, but I try to make the website come alive in a way that can allow you to use your imagination to smell all the wonderful smells and see all the beautiful colors and textures of my potpourri. We avoid the large pod-like ingredients commonly used by many potpourri companies, which only serve to bulk up potpourri, adding nothing to the quality and longevity of the fragrance. The flowers and herbs in our potourris are in their naturally dried state. Nothing is artificially colored, and there are no dyed woodchip fillers or fake perfumey scents. Our fragrances are fresh, clean and natural. Though scent is invisible, it has the power to evoke memories, soothe and calm the mind, and touch upon the emotions. Together, our flowers and fragrances create a lovely sensory experience that we're sure you'll enjoy.

The Herb Lady Potpourri Company will be back at Evolve gallery in Shepherdstown, West Virginia, Thanksgiving weekend, November 24-26, for a pop-up! The hours are 10AM to 6PM Black Friday and Saturday, and from 11AM to 5PM on Sunday. It coincides with the first weekend of the yearly Christmas in Shepherdstown celebration .

I’ll have 25 of my beautiful all-natural potpourris, featuring favorite blends for the holidays like Christmas Cheer, Forest Path, and Cozy Cinnamon ready to be custom packaged to order. I’ll also have my full line of refresher oils, and some wonderful sachets that make great gifts when filled with potpourri.

Last year was my first Herb Lady show at Evolve, and it was really fun! And it was also so touching to be back on German Street where I’d had my shop for all those years, and to see familiar faces of friends and past customers come out to get another dose of great scents!

Mark your calendars for the Over The Mountain Studio Tour taking place the second weekend in November, the 11th and 12th, in Jefferson County, West Virginia! On the tour you’ll get to visit various artists at 9 studios located throughout Jefferson County.

The Herb Lady will be at Tour Stop #7, the Shenandoah Planing Mill, on Cold Storage Road, just outside of Charles Town, WV.

I’ll be joining artists Neil Super of Two Rivers Turning who offers beautiful and practical turned wood objects crafted from local wood, and Luke Bauer who makes wonderful woven baskets.

This is my first time joining the tour which is in its 31st year. It’s a local event for me so I get to stay close to home. Come enjoy amazing artists and the Autumn countryside of the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia. And do some Christmas shopping at The Herb Lady on the Over The Mountain Studio Tour!

The Herb Lady Potpourri Company invites you to attend a special pop-up event at Evolve in Shepherdstown, West Virginia! I’ll be there with my fabulous line of natural potpourri, oils, and sachets November 11-13. Hours for the pop-up are 11-6 on Friday, and 10-6 on Saturday and Sunday.

I stopped doing shows in 2019, after almost 40 years of selling my products at fine craft fairs in the DC area and at my stores in Shepherdstown and Harpers Ferry, West Virginia. But since choosing to sell my products solely online, I miss the personal contact with my customers. So it’s really exciting that I’ll get to meet with customers at Evolve right here in Shepherdstown, my hometown!
