Otate Cave (Akiruno City)

The Otate Cave in Akiruno City offers a little adventure.

The entrance fee is 700 yen (cash only), and you'll need to put on a helmet before entering the cave.

You'll have to go through some very narrow sections, so it's a good idea to wear gloves.

It takes about 30 minutes to go around the whole cave.

Kazuma no Yu (Hinohara Village)

I went to Kazuma no Yu in Hinohara Village in late January to take a bath in the hot springs and have lunch.

We ordered maitake mushroom tempura, a fried horse mackerel set meal, and curry udon.

Cabin at Yama no Furusato Mura

I stayed at a 4-person cabin at Yama no Furusato Mura in Okutama Town in late January.

The pellet stove is on all day during the winter and there is air conditioning.

The starry sky is beautiful at night.

All cooking utensils are provided, but no tableware.

The accommodation fee here is 10,000 yen per night.

Tama Travel will make reservations on your behalf for 2,200 yen. (per 1 group, per 1 check-in)

A cafe in an old folk house

In Hinohara Village, there is a cafe called "Harenoya" that is housed in an old folk house.

We had lunch there in late January.

We had the "seasonal lunch set," chiffon cake, and baked cheesecake.

From December to February, the cafe is closed from Monday to Wednesday, and is open from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm.

Payment can be made by cash or card.

Kanoto Iwa (Rock) (Hinohara Village)

I visited Kanoto Iwa (Rock) in Hinohara Village in late January.

First, I climbed the ladder.

100m-high rock formations towered on both sides, and I walked along the promenade above the corridor, relying on chains.

A mountain stream flowed vigorously below.

On the way back, I walked through a pitch-black tunnel.

It felt like a bit of an adventure.

Lake Okutama and Ogouchi Dam

When I went to Lake Okutama in late January, I climbed up to the observation deck.

From there, I could see Lake Okutama, Ogouchi Dam, and the surrounding mountains.

Lunch at Lake Okutama

After arriving at Lake Okutama, the end point of the Okutama Mukashimichi hiking trail, in late January, I had lunch at a restaurant in the Okutama Water and Greenery Communication Center.

I had the Tororo Rice Set Meal (950 yen).

The ticket machine only accepts cash.

The view outside the window is great, and you can enjoy your meal at your own pace.

Suspension bridges on Okutama Mukashimichi

There are two suspension bridges on Okutama Mukashimichi.

For safety reasons, only two people can walk on either bridge.

There is a mountain stream flowing under the bridge, and it's quite a beautiful view.

Okutama Mukashimichi

I hiked the Okutama Mukashimichi in late January.

It's a hiking course about 10km one way from JR Ome Line Okutama Station to Lake Okutama.

There are many things to see on this course, including shrines, roadside statues, suspension bridges, and abandoned railway tracks.

I left Okutama Station around 9:30am, took a break on the way, and arrived at Lake Okutama around 12:30pm.

On the way back, I took the Nish*tokyo bus from the Okutama Lake bus stop back to Okutama Station.

ผมเดินป่าเส้นทาง Okutama Mukashimichi ในช่วงปลายเดือนมกราคม

เส้นทางเดินป่าระยะทางประมาณ 10 กิโลเมตรเที่ยวเดียวจากสถานีโอคุทามะบนสาย JR โอเมะ ไปยังทะเลสาบโอคุทามะ

หลักสูตรนี้มีสถานที่ท่องเที่ยวให้ชมมากมาย รวมถึงศาลเจ้า รูปปั้นจิโซ สะพานแขวน และรางรถไฟร้าง

ผมออกจากสถานีโอคุทามะเวลาประมาณ 9.30 น. พักรถระหว่างทาง และมาถึงทะเลสาบโอคุทามะเวลาประมาณ 12.30 น.

Dining at Takaosan Onsen

After bathing in Takaosan Onsen, it's a good idea to have a meal at the dining area located in the same building.

When I went there in late January, I had a mini tendon (tempura bowl).

Payment can be made by card or cash.

Natural hot springs at Mt. Takao

Next to Takaosanguchi Station on the Keio Line is "Keio Takaosan Onsen Gokuraku-yu."

I went there in late January.

Here you can enjoy a cypress bath, an open-air carbonated bath, an open-air rock bath, a cold bath, a sauna, and more.

It might be a good idea to stop by after hiking Mt. Takao.

It's open all year round, and admission for adults on weekdays is 1,100 yen, and you can pay by card.

Takao Manju

There are many souvenirs to choose from at Mt. Takao, but Takao Manju is also recommended.

The other day I bought some Takao Manju and steamed chestnut yokan at "Yukido."

This shop is a long-established store that was founded in the 1890s as a purveyor to the head temple of Mt. Takao.

Hikawa Shrine

Hikawa Shrine at the foot of Mt. Takao is located very close to Takaosanguchi Station on the Keio Line.

It might be a good idea to stop by and pray for safety before climbing Mt. Takao.

Also, every August, Shishimai (Lion dance) is performed at this shrine.

Setsubun Festival

This year's Setsubun is today, February 2nd.

I went to the bean-throwing ceremony at Jindaiji Temple in Chofu City.

At the bean-throwing ceremony, I was able to receive a lot of beans.

And today I ate ehomaki and beans.

Takao Baigo (Plum Village)

Takao Plum Village is a 4.5-kilometer stretch of the old Koshu Road where approximately 10,000 red and white plum trees are in full bloom, mainly in the Sekisho Plum Grove, Tenjin Plum Grove, Yunohana Plum Grove, Surusashi Plum Grove, Kinozawa Plum Grove, and the promenade plum grove along the Kobotoke River. The plum trees are usually in full bloom from mid-February to mid-March.

I went to the promenade plum grove along the Kobotoke River and Tenjin Plum Grove on January 21st. In the promenade plum grove, a few red plum trees were starting to bloom.

The Takao Plum Village Plum Festival will be held on March 8th (Sat) and 9th (Sun) this year.

The promenade plum grove along the Kobotoke River, which is the starting point of the Plum Village, is a 10-minute walk from Takaosanguchi Station on the Keio Line and a 15-minute walk from JR Takao Station.

Mt. Takao's Winter Soba Campaign

After visiting the Takao 599 Museum the other day, I went to a nearby soba restaurant called Nikkoya and ate "Tororo Imo Tempura Soba."

They are currently running the "Mt. Takao's Winter Soba Campaign," which is a 100 yen discount, so it was 850 yen.

The restaurant is about a 1-minute walk from Takaosanguchi Station on the Keio Line.
Payment is only accepted in cash.

Okutama Loop Road I drove along the Okutama Loop Road yesterday. Lift to the observation deck (Mt. Mitake) You can use the lift from Mitakedaira to the observation swing "Musasabi Swing" and "Ubuyasusha", which enshrines the god of safe childbirth and child rearing. It costs 100 yen one way. Tickets can only be purchased with cash. The ride takes about 3 minutes. Amagoi Falls (Hinohara Village) There are about 13 famous waterfalls in Hinohara Village. The entrance to Amagoi Falls is located right next to the monorail stop for the Kobayashi House. It takes about 5 minutes on foot from the entrance to reach the waterfall. The waterfall is about 10m high, but when I went in mid-November, the water was gushing down with great force.
