The artichoke season is springing into action in Venice - the special 'early season' carciofi from Sant'Erasmo - an island in the lagoon of Venice produces fabulous 'carciofi violetti' which are delicious and can be served lightly steamed or even thinly-sliced and raw - they are 'prelibato' as the Italians would say! Consorzio del Ca****fo violetto di Sant Erasmo is the official farmers/growers group on the island of Sant'Erasmo.

A brilliant start to the spring/summer season in Venice as the city shimmers in her April mantle of high water and daily ‘caigo’ fog. The weather is very variable, cool and misty in the morning and beautifully sunny in the afternoon. The wisteria is in bloom and the gardens are bouncing into life. Our ‘Venice in Springtime’ has just finished and we are limbering up for Trieste; dispatching guests to airport, sad to be leaving, everyone has had a wonderful time. Siamo fortunate - abbiamo un lavoro molto speciale. A presto Venezia! Sad to leave!

As the days begin to length and the sun’s rays strengthen, the wisteria blossom cascades over gateways and walls. The ‘bella stagione’ is just around the corner and an aperitivo in the local ‘campo’ is a delightful opportunity to absorb the scents and flavours of Venice. We are just concluding our ‘Venice in Springtime’ trip, which has been wonderful. We’ve enjoyed a private ‘palazzo’ visit, an evening visit to San Marco, Byzantine mosaics and endless wisteria....

Yesterday I had the opportunity to explore the Armenian Church in Venice. I found the key holder and in we went. The Armenian Church of Santa Croce is tucked into a discreet corner just off St Mark’s Square. It is the active Armenian Church in Venice. A service is held here on Sundays - once a month. .
