Last day of School tomorrow!

Ask any of my former students these two questions. Where are you? What are you here to do? You should get the same type of answer concluded by a deep breath to let go all distractions outside of the class room. From day one, I started every day, almost, with that ritual. Hoping this would help to focus my students and change the energy in the room for a better learning experience.

I have loved teaching and the impact that I have had on my students and they on me. I hope to continue in the near future. I feel that I showed up and brought energy everyday even when I didn’t have it.

RIP AMBI and thank you for the 5 years. Although it is sucks that my school is closing I have to look for the positive. When I wake up on Thursday, on my birthday….I won’t have to go to work!

A lifetime of massage

As a 23 year veteran of massage therapy, I have performed thousands of hours of therapeutic massage. I am a proud graduate of the National Holistic Institute in Emeryville, California. Touted as being on of the most respected massage therapy schools in the world, the National Holistic Institute College of Massage Therapy has been operating since 1979 and has the distinction of being the first nationally accredited school in California. NHI's mission statement is “Helping people have work they love!”. Personally, every day I strive to make a positive impact in another persons life. Being a massage therapist allows me to do that as a professional by providing safe therapeutic touch, revealing chronic pain, stress and allowing someone to reconnect with their bodies. Their trust and knowing that I was able to make a difference in a someones day and life is something I cherish.

The past 22 years I provided massage therapy at Elizabeth Arden's Red Door Spas and Salon(Mynd) in Tysons and Fairfax Virginia starting there at just 20 years old. Clients used to ask just how long have I been d**g massage! Now I still ask the same question just in a less of my therapist needs acne cream way. My work at the Red Door provided me with wonderful guests and the opportunity to expand my knowledge of the spa industry, while being able to still provide more of a medical massage approach. It provided me with years of experience as therapist, a manager and educator. I also had the honor of being listed in Allure Magizine's 'Best of The Best Issue' October of 2009-20012.

Recently, utilizing my experience and continued passions for massage I joined American Massage and Bodywork Institute to educate and teach the art of massage. I get to help guide my students natural gift of touch and intuition with the power of education and clinical reasoning. Giving back and helping them have work they love.

My experience and education at NHI gave me a foundation in both Western and Eastern philosophies of massage therapy. This is very much prevalent in my approach to massage today. Consulting with you about any medical conditions, areas of tension, past surgeries or injuries, your day to day stresses i.e. holding your baby, sitting at work, exercise programs and sports you may play. I create session plans to manipulate the soft tissue that directly and indirectly affects you. Being ever mindful to incorporate the directional massage and acupressure for the flow of energy in eastern Shiatsu massage, the breathing and stretching as found in Thai yoga and meditation, and of course a smooth and rhythmic pace that stimulates the para-sympathetic nerves system to rest and rejuvenate and create total body relaxation.
