The fabric that connects us all
Gear Around Here is for anyone who believes in or want to partake in the sharing economy. Our goal is to build a network of communities, coming together with a shared purpose in mind - to reuse and reduce our footprint. Here’s who's involved, you (the owner of an item), a renter (someone who wants to rent or borrow your item) and Gear Around Here (that's us). Our
website has been designed to be an online marketplace for you to advertise your ‘rather nice’ backpack or 8 person tent, or fancy sleeping cot and any other great outdoor gear that you don’t mind sharing or renting within the GAH network. Trust and integrity are really the heart and soul of Gear Around Here, so be aware of that and know that we take it very seriously. And maybe you make a few bucks, make a new friend, teach someone a new skill, maybe even join a group on a camping trip - who knows. At the end of the day, the gear you have, taking up space, that you only use once a year, is gonna make someone very happy for a few days. Using our marketplace, you advertise what you have - someone from the network makes a reservation to rent it, they use it and then return it. You charge a few $$, we take a small fee for the service, you rate the renter, you get rated and all is good and the earth is happier. That’s our GAH Community, but we will start small - just around here!! What do you have that’s good to rent? To get started, think about what you have that others may want to rent. We are sure you have a fancy 10 person tent or a pack that can haul food & gear for 15 days. I am sure those cost you an arm, a leg and then some. Get a list and pictures of the outdoor gear that you have (maybe you purchased it on an impulse - we do that too!) and list it on GAH. List just one item, or list them all; the choice it up to you! Right down to how much it costs to "rent" the item and when it's available. By adding in when the item is available, you have the flexibility to block out dates when you know you will be using the item, say for a family camping trip or a trek in the Alps, but it's still available for those of us who would really love to use it for our own adventure. Anyone from our community can create a profile, log on and check out what’s available. Maybe they are looking for a mountain bike or a pair of trekking poles. They find something they like, look at the cost and make a reservation to pick it up - if available. Rent items for a day, a weekend or a week or more. When done, bring it back to the owner to the agreed up on spot - maybe their home or parking lot near a coffee shop. Your choice. And, sometimes owners may want a deposit for an expensive item or not. Everything you need to know will be mentioned in the post.
