was established in 2022 by Kelly & Paolo Picarazzi, owners of the multi-award winning locanda Antica Australis (est. 2020) in the historic village of Carcoar in regional New South Wales. Kelly and Paolo previously ran Silver Compass Tours (est. 2014) which specialised in food and wine packaged tours in the emerging wine-growing region of Orange in New South Wales, as well as hosted small group tou

rs to Paolo's home region of Ciociaria in central Italy. From 2022, Silver Compass Tours has rebranded as Antica Travel Co. to focus on continuing to design off the beaten path and out of the ordinary travel experiences within the 'hidden' regions of Ciociaria and Molise in central Italy as part of our Wild Heart of Italy tour portfolio. Our mission is to create enjoyable food, wine and cultural travel experiences that enrich people’s lives by enhancing their discovery of people, places and new ideas. PERSONALLY HOSTED // our Wild Heart of Italy cultural travel experiences to the ‘hidden’ regions of Ciociaria & Molise in central Italy are personally hosted by Antica Travel Co. founders and owners of Antica Australis, Paolo & Kelly Picarazzi.

Paolo is a Ciociarian native, born & bred in the Wild Heart of Italy. He is descended from two of the original Italic tribes of central Italy, the Ernici & the Volscii.

A genuine & passionate foodie, Paolo is the culinary creative behind the revival and celebration of the ancient cuisine of Ciociaria at Antica Australis.

This is a chance to explore the villages & vineyards of Ciociaria and meet local producers & artisans in the company of a Ciociarian native who is able to interpret individual dialects throughout the region - so our locals can share their own stories in their own language 💫

Everyone in our Wild Heart of Italy experience itineraries are also our very good personal friends and we have an on-ground team of academics and archeologists as our local guides.

Kelly has a background in global tourism and was included in the global Travel Massive ‘100 Inspiring Women Travel Founders’ list for 2020 just prior to the pandemic.

Together we will be re-launching our Wild Heart of Italy cultural travel experiences from September 2024.

INTRODUCING ANTICA TRAVEL CO.

Silver Compass Tours will now rebrand to become Antica Travel Co., to focus solely on hosting our small group WILD HEART OF ITALY slow food & wine cultural travel experiences to the 'hidden' regions of Ciociaria and Molise in central Italy.

We are very much hoping to be able to relaunch our Wild Heart of Italy tours in the next 12-18 months, and will be travelling to the region this May to redesign our tour itineraries and experiences.

Curators of charming food and wine travel experiences, we have a focus on slow, sustainable and immersive small-group tours. Established in 2014, Silver Compass Tours is a regionally-based Australian tour operator with a global vision. We specialise in packaged and hosted travel experiences to the food and wine region of Orange in regional New South Wales, Australia and the ‘hidden’ region of Ciociaria in Central Italy that we call home – all of which are food and wine lovers’ dream destinations.

Our carefully curated food and wine cultural travel experiences are aimed at being genuinely immersive, where curious travellers, aficionados and seekers of the extraordinary are encouraged to interactively engage with local producers and their produce to understand the provenance, vision for the future and intrinsic cultural heritage of each region.
