If you are going on a self drive tour around Iceland, be aware of the lambs.

Lambing season has arrived in Iceland! This means that many lambs are walking out and about and will be crossing the roads. Please SLOW DOWN when sheep are near your vehicle and stop when they are trying to cross the road. It is safer to reduce speed early on then to stop suddenly or swerve on the road. In the case that you hit a sheep you must call 112 so they can inform the farmer. For any questions email us at [email protected].

We've heard that people are finding pufflings in Reykjavík!

Not only that but two are staying at casa Mundi at the moment, resting up and getting some yummy capelin.

It is very uncommon to find pufflings in Reykjavík but there are a couple of islands off the coast where they're probably coming from. They're just starting to test their sealegs out, get attracted to the lights of Reykjavík and then get lost and are stuck in town. So it is important that we help them.

It's good to get cardboardbox and keep them in that. They don't fly and that is totally normal. They may try to bite but they don't bite hard (not yet).

If they have down on their feathers it is a good idea to keep them for a few days until that falls off because the down only weighs them down in the water since it isn't waterproof.

They're probably very hungry and like to eat raw, thawed fish, it can be a good idea to cut some haddock into slim strings and see if they take that.

It is important not to hold them a lot or pet them because then the feathers may lose their natural oils which make the puffins waterproof.

If they are fully feathered and have no down they can be taken to the seaside and released. Just remember that it is important to throw them as far as you can so that the current won't just bring them back to the shore. They are good swimmers and will be just fine.

If you are uncertain or unable to do these things Mundi will happily allow other pufflings to stay for a while and assist them 💜🐧

Laugavegur og Laugarvegur? We know the difference! 😀

The American, who wound up at Laugarvegur street in the fishing village of Siglufjörður in North Iceland, instead of Reykjavík’s main thoroughfare, due to a typo, says he enjoyed the lovely scenery during his 5-hour-long drive from Reykjavík.
