This is my latest blog from one of the largest and most seldom visited national parks in Tanzania. In the dry season the water dries up and the hippos crowd into mud pits and fight each other. It is an incredible spectacle.

From Ibo Island, two fishermen took me sailing north through the archipelago in their dhow for a 3d/2n beach camping and snorkeling trip. The highlight was Rolas Island. Uninhabited and surrounded by bommies teaming with life.

My latest blog on the 7D/6N solo safari I took through Kruger National Park in South Africa. I had some great sightings, but it made me miss the ruggedness of safaris in East Africa, even when you do find yourself deep-knee in mud with a high-life jack.

I finally finished one of my favorite albums of all time. "African Road Trip Legends" has shots of all the folks who played a part on the great African road trip. It had been half done for a long time, and I just added those from the second half of the trip. Thanks so much to all the friends and family who made this possible and shared in the experience. Time of a lifetime!

After 2.5 years of silence here, I am back up and blogging again. I took a big break to move to France, (and then to Switzerland). As well as have a baby girl, and start a financial inclusion consulting business. Both are going very well.

After spending the last months in the mountains of Swtizerland, Norway and Slovakia, I have become re-energized to share stories and images. Here is the first of them about the High Tatra mountains in Slovakia.

Another tusker in Tsavo, murdered. Super sad.

Tragic news as Ndawe, a 'super tusker' elephant, has ended his long journey at the hands of humans – death delivered by four spears.

The Great Migration in the Serengeti plains is an intricate system of weather cycles, circuits of motion, and circles of life, which is fascinating to understand, amazing to see, and at risk of losing the balance it needs.

For those of you interested in wildlife photography, I just partnered with professional safari photographer, Daniel Myburg to write a short guide to photography on safari. Check on the article on Wilderness Safaris for some great tips and stunning images from Kwetsani Camp.

I have finally finished an article on one of the hardest to reach, most legendary places in Africa. The Kolmanskop ghost town. It is a remnant of the diamond rush one hundred years ago in Namibia. It has a fascinating history, as well as being a photographer's dream.

Just remembering this day a year ago, spent with the Hamar tribe in Omo Valley of the south western corner of Ethiopia. We watched some incredible feats of bravery in the whipping ceremony, and then witnessed a young boy pounce over the backs of bulls to become a man. Breathtaking.

My last trip to the Kalahari in Botswana was as a guest of Wilderness Safaris, and it was full of excitement. Black maned lions, endless stars, and tall grasses full of pronking springbok and larks. It was wonderful to finally understand the Kalahari's soft side.

Thank you to the Travel Malawi for publishing my article and pictures from climbing Mount Mulanje in Malawi. Definitely worth a trip, as it might be the best value adventure in Africa, and the chalets and swimming holes are amazing.

Mike McCaffrey, writer and travel blogger at Nomadic by Nature tells us of his experience climbing Mount Mulanje and how he discovered unexpected swimming holes and wonderful cosy lodges high upon the mountain.

Traveling as a guest of Wilderness Safaris in the Kalahari, I got to see the desert after the rains. The monarch butterflies were fluttering everywhere, and the springbok were pronking in the plains. A very Magical time.

Near the Kalahari Plains Camp in the north of the Central Kalahari Game Reserve, the pride of lions as a young litter of cubs. There is also a large black maned male lion in the area they do not quite trust. Listen to this impressive show of strength the females display to the male nearby.
