Viloletta & Anatol: Two cellos for Symphonic Holidays

Traveling with a cello can be inconvenient and expensive. Cellists therefor often ask for a rental cello on a Symphonic Holiday. Two cellos were now purchased to meet this demand. Before, the cellos were rented ad hoc from various luthiers, which was always an exciting blind date. Now cellists can know beforehand on which cello they will be playing during their Symphonic Holiday. The cost for a rental cello is between 140,- € and 190,- € including a carbon bow and a light weight Bam cello case. If you are interested, please ask for a detailed description of the instruments.

Before deciding to buy them, the instruments have been tested and approved by participants and our cello coach Constance Ricard during the Symphonic Holiday last October in Cefalù. Constance came to Cefalù not only with her husband and violin coach Rodrigo, but also with their three kids, including the newborn twins Violetta and Anatol, after whom the cellos were named.

Violetta and Anatol are complementing our collection of existing instruments for Symphonic Holidays: a Wilfer double bass, Adams timpani and various percussion instruments.

A new video has been released with impressions on our Symphonic Holiday last summer in Santa Vittoria in Matenano. Thank you to our soloist and coach Jaime González who prepared the video and that way made it possible to share nice memories.

This year, two Symphonic Holidays are planned at this lovely destination in central Italy, and amateur musicians have the choice between a baroque repertoire in May or opera arias combined with Beethoven symphony n°5 in August.

Music in the air

A summer of music with Symphonic Holidays

Amateur musicians from around the world are preparing their parts in these days at home, before traveling with their instruments to Santa Vittoria in July, and another group to Bardou in August.

The orchestra in Santa Vittoria - Sinfonietta Farfense - will perform one concert on 25th July in Montegiorgio. Whereas the Sinfonietta Bardou will give two concerts on 9th and 10th August in Saint-Chinina and Villemagne l’Argentière.

On our Symphonic Holiday in Bardou from 1st – 12th August, we still have one place for viola, one for horn and one for trumpet.

First Symphonic Holiday this year just ended in Bardou

Vacancies for one clarinet, one horn, one trumpet, two violins and one viola on our second Symphonic Holiday in Bardou 1st – 10th August 2021

A few amateur players, who were not discouraged by the pandemic, now in June have travelled with their instruments to our enchanting quiet&nature destination in the South of France.

It was only a small group in this difficult time, but we had decided to go ahead anyways and make this musical vacation possible for those who already felt prepared to gather and make music again. All were highly motivated and under the careful guidance of the wonderful team, even as a small ensemble successfully studied and performed a demanding repertoire.

David Curtis was conductor on this Symphonic Holiday, while Anna Göckel as soloist was leading the orchestra during Schubert’s Rondo for solo violin and string orchestra, and also coached the violins. Cellos and double bass were coached by Constance Ricard.

On a Symphonic Holiday, we spend most time with music. But the participants also had opportunities to explore the nature around Bardou or to make excursion to see other places.

We will never forget a very special moment, when late in the evening we came back to Bardou from our first concert. In the darkness of the night, some candles marked the way up to what is called the amphitheater of Bardou, a humble stage made of an ancient stone building cut open to one side, with tiered seatings rising behind in a semicircle. The few candles and the stars above us gave just enough light to grasp the silhouette of the place. In an atmosphere of solemn silence, Anna then took her violin and played Bach, the first sonata and the second partita with the famous Chaconne. Thank you, Anna!
