Fiber Residency applications are now open on our website.
This two week program invites residents to work both collaboratively and independently, exploring themes such as textile production processes, materials, social fabric, and biodiversity. The residency is meant to encourage experimentation, growth and exchange between fiber artists.
Programming includes guided connection with local artisans and artists, accommodation in our house, use of Thread Caravan textile equipment, access to a selection of materials and weekly meetings with our team.
Residents must have prior experience with textiles, and something to offer to our local network in the form of a workshop or other exchange.
Pricing is based on a sliding scale system.

Mornings on Lake Atitlán
Jessie Mordine Young is a textile artist and scholar from San Francisco, living in New York City, where she teaches at and devotes time to her weaving practice.
During our Fiber Residency program, Jessie initially embarked on a project creating daily artworks, which she calls “woven drawings” or “thread sketches”. This collection is a direct response to a particular time and place experienced during her time in Oaxaca. The artist’s work is deeply rooted in moments being marked by color. Additionally, the material specificity of found fibers informs her work. In each drawing, she incorporates an element from one or more visits she had with artists during her time in Oaxaca.
Materials include heirloom cotton, wool, ixtle, and natural dyes. Woven on a frame loom from .

Since our Fiber Residency, Jessie has continued her work of daily weavings, each one different from the last, with a commitment to weave 100 consecutive days. Her works can be found at and in her Brooklyn studio.
More information about our Fiber Residency programs coming very soon!

Asmaa Amadou .asmaa is a textile artist from Togo, West Africa by way of New York.
During our fiber residency program, she explored the theme of migration using her ancestral craft techniques of resist indigo natural dyeing and printmaking to birth contemporary works of fiber art. Her designs are inspired by patterns in the universe and nature.
Her works utilize local Oaxacan materials: beeswax from Abastos market, mud from San Marcos Tlapazola and la Mixteca, cassava root, and añil from Santiago Niltepec. Asmaa painted and used wooden blocks to print resist materials onto handwoven cotton fabric. When submerged into the indigo vat, the fabric absorbed blue dye everywhere except the printed areas. She applied this ame technique with local natural dyes like cochinilla and pericon.

Today we ventured to Teotitlán del Valle, a small Zapotec town outside of Oaxaca City known for its history of artisan weaving. We went out to the mountain where the pericone flower was growing wildly on the hillside. We used pomegranate, walnut and cochineal to create shades of yellow, brown and pink. And we connected with Pastora, a source of bountiful plant knowledge and a beam of hope for her female community and their progress towards equality in the Zapotec community.
