Living & Working in La France Profounde
My dream since I was 15 years old was to live in France. Why France you might ask? There are so many European countries that are beautiful that I have visited. By the way, France is still my favorite! :-) Maybe, it is because I began taking French in high school and later while in college at LSU back in the 1970s. The first time that I actually visited France, was when I was 33 years old. It’s been a love affair ever since May of 1988.
From that time forward to now in 2018, I have visited almost yearly, whenever I could scrape up enough vacation time & money, to take off from the hospital where I worked. Each time I went back to visit France, I would plan our trip, and we would explore a different region of France, and sometimes other countries.
On December 5, 2014, my forty year dream came true. My husband and I bought a 15th century stone manor with a tower in a real medieval village in southwest France, in the Aveyron department. Since then we live and work there 6 months out of every year.
Our French neighbors have totally accepted us, as the only Americans around, and have become our close friends. We work and live in a dream every single day; from the ancient stone architecture, the profuse flowers that spill out from every courtyard and shuttered window, and the 15th century church above us that tolls its ancient bells. There is even a gorgeous, ruined 12th century privately-owned château at the top of our village. It is a sight to see!
