Our winter season has begun from November 20, 2024.

It felt as though the grand and vivid aurora appeared to celebrate the opening of the season.
The aurora, flowing dynamically across the entire sky, was truly breathtaking.

In winter, Aurora Lake is covered in snow, offering a different charm compared to the summer season.

Daytime activities such as dog sledding and trying on traditional snowshoes used by Indigenous people will also be added, and we look forward to sharing more details with you soon.

Hello, this is Aurora Village.
Today, we are sharing a photo taken on September 27th.
On this day, the aurora didn’t appear at all in the early hours, but after 2 a.m., it finally showed up in a breathtakingly beautiful display.
The aurora was vibrant in color, moved in various ways, and spread across the entire sky. We were able to witness a perfect Level 5 aurora without a doubt.

Yesterday was a day filled with various shapes of the aurora.
We were able to enjoy different types of auroras, starting with curtain-shaped ones, followed by spiral shapes, corona-like, and more, with different shapes and colors every time.

At around 10 PM, a beautiful aurora spread across the sky, then hid for a while, only to reappear in full glory around 12:30 AM.
The temperature was just right, making it a perfect night for aurora viewing.

The photo was taken on September 7th.
Today, we’d like to talk about the Kp index. The reason is that the Kp values for today are expected to be high, raising hopes for aurora sightings.
The Kp index measures the strength of geomagnetic activity (which correlates to the intensity of auroras) caused by the sun. It ranges from 0 to 9, where 0 indicates a low chance of aurora occurrence, and 9 indicates a high chance.
Today’s Kp index is 5. While it will depend on the weather, there is a high likelihood of auroras appearing.

といいますのも、本日はそのKp値が高いため、良いオーロラを期待できる夜になると考えられるからです。

Let’s go back a bit in time; this photo was taken on September 6th. On that day, beautiful auroras were visible until dawn, and we had the chance to enjoy an extended period of aurora viewing.

Starting in September, Aurora Village offers extended aurora viewing hours. In addition to the regular 4-hour aurora viewing, you can extend it for 90 minutes.

At the start of yesterday’s aurora viewing, the sky was covered with thick clouds, and many of our guests were feeling anxious. However, after a while, the clouds drifted away, revealing a starry sky, and a beautiful curtain of green and red auroras appeared. This kind of situation happens often. Even if the sky is covered by clouds, they will most likely clear, so please don’t lose hope and keep enjoying the aurora viewing.

This photo was taken on August 30th. On this day, we witnessed the most incredible aurora of August. The sky was filled with a curtain of auroras gracefully moving across, creating a breathtaking sight. We received many joyful comments from our guests.

The aurora that night reached the maximum level of 5.

Hello from Aurora Village!

On August 29th, we were fortunate to witness a beautifully vivid, colorful aurora with a stunning gradient.

This time, I would like to talk about the TeePee, which you can see in the bottom right corner of the photo and is a symbol of Aurora Village. A TeePee is a type of dwelling traditionally used by Indigenous people for camping. The key difference from a regular tent is that you can build a fire inside. A TeePee is made from 15 poles and a canvas covering. Each of the 15 poles has its own meaning, representing the 12 months, the sun, the moon, and life.

Moreover, Indigenous people had a culture of hunting while on the move. When it was time to move, they could take down the TeePee quickly by removing the canvas covering, bundling the poles, and rolling up the ground coverings, making setup and takedown a quick process.

During your aurora viewing experience at Aurora Village, you can spend time inside one of these traditional TeePees. Of course, we have a fire burning inside, so please feel free to use it.

8/29、色鮮やかな綺麗なグラデーションのオーロラを観ることが出来ました。

今回は写真右下に写っております、オーロラビレッジの象徴といえるTeePeeについてお話しします。
TeePeeとは先住民の野営用の住居です。
一般的なテントとの決定的な違いは、中で火を焚くことが出来るということです。TeePeeは15本の柱とキャンバス布で作られています。15本の柱にはそれぞれ意味があり、１月から１２月、太陽と月、そして命を表しています。
また、先住民は移動しながら狩りを行う文化がありました。移動の際には、周囲を囲むキャンバス布を外して畳み、柱は束ねて括り、敷物を片付けるだけで済むので、設置も徹去も短時間で行うことが可能です。

オーロラビレッジでのオーロラ観賞の際には、この伝統的なテントであるTeePeeにてお過ごしいただくことができます。もちろん、中で火を焚いておりますので是非ご利用ください。

We are pleased to show four photos of the aurora taken yesterday, August 24th.

Yesterday’s aurora was strong and displayed vibrant colors. At the start of the aurora viewing, the sky was covered by thick clouds, but the clouds moved quickly, allowing us to enjoy the aurora for a long time. Although there were moments when the sky was covered by clouds, the aurora seemed to be present above us the entire time. It was delightful to see the reactions of children, who were excitedly searching for the aurora as it appeared in various directions, like a treasure hunt.

The aurora level yesterday was 4.

Hello, this is Aurora Village.
Yesterday, we were able to witness a very large aurora.
Although it was only for a short time, we also saw an aurora moving as if it were dancing.
I believe it was a level 4 aurora, close to level 5.
At Aurora Village, we have our own rating system for auroras.
Level 1 is the lowest, indicating either no visible aurora or a cloudy sky, while Level 5 is the highest.

Level 1:
The sky is covered with clouds, and no aurora is visible, or the aurora is too faint to be seen with the naked eye.
Level 2:
A faint aurora that looks like white clouds. The aurora is stationary but visible to the naked eye.
Level 3:
An aurora that is clearly recognizable as such, though it does not move.
Level 4:
A bright and vivid aurora with noticeable movement. Curtain-shaped auroras can be seen.
Level 5:
A very active aurora directly overhead, with visible pink light and an aurora explosion (breakup).

This is the criteria we use for our rating system.
Although yesterday’s aurora was magnificent, because the pink light was not visible to the naked eye, it was rated as a level 4.

Moving forward, we plan to share the aurora levels with you as well, so please consider them when you see the posted images.

昨日は非常に大きなオーロラを見ることができました。
短い間でしたが、踊るように動くオーロラも見られました。
レベル5に近い、レベル4のオーロラだったと思います。
このようにオーロラビレッジでは、独自の判断でレベル付けをしております。
レベル1が一番低い数値で見えないオーロラ又は曇り空、レベル5が一番高い数値です。

レベル1
雲に覆われオーロラが出現していない又はオーロラが薄く肉眼で見えない。
レベル2
薄く白い雲の様なオーロラ。動きのないオーロラだが肉眼で見える。
レベル3
誰が見てもオーロラと分かるが動きのないオーロラ。
レベル4
明るく鮮明な動きのあるオーロラが見える。カーテン状のオーロラが見える。
レベル5
真上で動きの活発なオーロラが見える。ピンクの光が肉眼で見えオーロラ爆発が発生する。（ブレイクアップ）

といったような基準でレベル付けをしております。
昨日のオーロラは立派でしたが、ピンクの光が肉眼で見れることがなかったので、レベル4であったといえます。

That night, we were able to witness a continuous display of the aurora from around 11 PM until 3 AM. The aurora first appeared as a small streak and then spread across the entire sky, covering the vast night sky. The colors were vivid, and our guests were very pleased.

This is Aurora Village.
Today, we would like to introduce Cameron Falls Trail, which is available as an optional tour.

Cameron Falls is located about an hour away from downtown Yellowknife. You will travel 50 kilometers straight along the Ingraham Trail highway, and along the way, there are various points of interest to enjoy. You can see rocks that are approximately 2 billion years old, Great Slave Lake, which is the deepest lake in Canada, the Yellowknife River that serves as the town’s drinking water source, and beaver lodges, as the beaver is Canada’s national animal.

The hike to the falls takes about 30 minutes one way. The trail has a moderate amount of ups and downs, but it is paved, making it easy to walk on. As you walk through the beautiful trees, you will eventually reach an impressive waterfall. You can get up close to the falls, and if you cross the bridge to the opposite side, you will be able to see a different view. With the upcoming season, you are sure to enjoy it even more.

本日はオプショナルツアーで行くことが出来る、Cameron Falls Trailをご紹介します。

Cameron Fallsはイエローナイフのダウンタウンから40分ほど離れた場所にあります。
イングラハムトレイルという高速道路を50km、まっすぐ進んでいくのですが、道中も様々な見所があります。約20億年前の岩や、カナダで１番の深さの湖であるグレートスレイブレイク、街の飲み水としても使われているイエローナイフ川、カナダの国獣であるビーバーの巣などが見られます。

滝までのトレッキングは約片道30分です。程よくアップダウンがありますが、舗装されているので歩きやすい道となっております。綺麗な木々の中を進むと、その先に迫力のある滝が現れます。滝の間近まで近づくこともできます。橋を渡り滝の反対側まで行き、また違う景色を見ることも出来ます。これからの季節、より一層お楽しみいただけること間違いなしです。

Hello, this is Aurora Village.
Today, we’d like to share with you the pictures from August 16th and 17th.

On the 16th, we witnessed a magnificent aurora that spread across the entire sky.
Then on the 17th, although the aurora was slightly weaker, it was still beautifully colorful. It’s always exciting to see a different aurora each day, isn’t it?

One of the guests on our tour asked why the auroras appear in different colors.
Auroras occur when solar wind, which is carried from the sun to the earth, collides with particles in the earth’s atmosphere, producing light. This light is what we call the aurora. The color of the aurora is determined by the altitude and the type of particles it collides with.
For example, when it collides with oxygen at higher altitudes, it produces red light. At lower altitudes, it produces green light. When it collides with nitrogen at higher altitudes, it creates a bluish-purple color, and at lower altitudes, it can appear pink.

Please keep this in mind when you watch the aurora!

本日は8月16日と17日の様子をお届けします。

16日は空一面に広がる立派なオーロラ、17日は少し弱いながらも色鮮やかな綺麗なオーロラを見ることができました。
毎日違うオーロラを見ることが出来ること、とてもワクワクしますよね。

ツアーにご参加いただいたお客様からは、なぜこのような違う色の
オーロラを見ることができるのか？という質問をいただきました。
太陽から地球へと運ばれてきた、太陽風と呼ばれるものが、地球に届き、物質とぶつかることで光が発生します。それがオーロラの正体です。
そして、オーロラの色は、どの高さでどの物質とぶつかるかによって決まります。
