Ever since our first Women’s Empowerment Retreat in South Africa, we have gathered an international brigade of female powerhouses in South Africa, Kenya, Rwanda and most recently in Zimbabwe, the homeland of our Founder & CEO Deborah Calmeyer.

The far-reaching impact of these journeys doesn’t just ripple; it ROARS. Thanks to the vision of our women speakers and the generosity of our guests, we’ve changed lives; creating educational opportunities, scholarships, documentary films, exchange programs and funding for critical conservation and women’s health initiatives. TED Talks have been given, books written and new career paths forged.

The final destination of our Sand, Sea, City & Safari trip is the Seychelles. We’ll take our magic carpet to The Four Seasons on Mahé Island, a glorious retreat encompassing a 170-acre stretch of emerald forest, pristine beach, and coral reefs nestled into Petite Anse Bay.

Congratulations to our ROAR AFRICA guests on reaching the summit of Mt Kilimanjaro, Africa’s tallest peak!

The Journey to the Summit unfolded last week through tropical rainforest where our adventurous travelers began their ascent under a tall canopy of trees. As they gained in elevation, the landscapes changed dramatically from heath and moorland to stark alpine desert. One of the greatest challenges and thrills was a steep scramble up the famed Barranco Wall. The group departed Kosovo Camp just after midnight on Sunday, hiking through the night under a sky full of stars up volcanic rock and snowfields surrounded by glaciers. The trip culminated at Uhuru Peak for the most unforgettable sunrise on the roof of Africa!

This truly one-of-a-kind ROAR AFRICA experience was elevated to an entirely new level with spacious tents to relax in after a long day of hiking, hot showers, two private chefs, a personal guide for every guest and a scenic Tropic Air helicopter ride off the mountain after the summit.

As we reflect on a week of the world’s most creative minds that came together at in Miami, the proudest moment of all was by far the appointment of Koyo Kouoh our Executive Director of Zeitz MOCAA in Cape Town as the 1st African Woman to Curate Venice Biennale 61st edition, in 2026. We are so proud and honored to have lead African art on the world stage.

Our ROAR AFRICA guests will have special access to Koyo on our art trip at the Investec Cape Town Art Fair in February 2025.

Amongst the incredible exhibits of beauty and inspiration from our continent we celebrated also acknowledge the powerful installation on the beach, an evocative masterpiece that both embodies Africa’s spirit but also draws attention to the importance of wildlife conservation. This breathtaking work reminds us that art is not simply an expression; it’s a call to protect the natural beauty and heritage of our world.

Here’s to the artists, the visionaries and the dreamers who continue to make Africa’s spirit shine!
