The idea was born after I first visited an HIV orphanage in the huge slum of Kibera outside of Nairobi, Kenya. I was inspired by the teachers and volunteers there who use each person’s unique gifts and talents to make life more joyful for others. As a mother of two dancing daughters with past experience in fashion and design, I began to think about how my own gifts could be applied to making the
world a better place. I now work with a team of colleagues who share this inspiration and the idea that everyone has something special to offer. Every gift can make a difference. Every costume created by Something Special Tutus and Dance Costumes is custom made for each performer. Our traditional non-stretch classical tutus are the ultimate in fit, workmanship and materials. Each traditional tutu takes a minimum of 40 hours to construct and many more hours are invested to complete the complex embellishments and decorations. These beautiful tutus are considered a solid investment for companies or advanced ballerinas that require the highest quality costumes which are built to last for years. Not every dancer or performance requires a traditional ballet tutu. At Something Special Tutus and Dance Costumes, we design and construct custom tutus and costumes while taking into consideration each dancer’s requirements regarding fit, style and choreography. Each costume is designed with consideration and respect for every budget. We know and understand that all dancers work hard to prepare for their performances and we create each costume to complement and enhance their efforts. Every costume created by our talented team is truly Something Special. Our goal is to help dancers share their gifts and talents to bring joy to their audience. The salaries earned from each costume are donated to projects that bring arts and education to children in need. We believe everyone is capable of Something Special, and like our dancers, we encourage everyone involved with Something Special Tutus and Costumes to use their unique gifts and talents to create more joy in the world.
