All things Africa from

Africans must remember who they are and where they came from. We must stop defining ourselves according to foreign etiquettes. That's ridiculous.

All the countries of the Sahel area are very strongly connected. But today they are unable to efficiently work together. They wait for foreigners to tell them how they should interact with their own brothers and sisters...

The same people who divided you are the ones who acknowledged the strong link that you share with your neighbors a few centuries ago. Today they have convinced you of the opposite to manipulate you.

My Tips for Hotel Safety (Save and Share!)

If you're active on Twitter you might've heard of a developing story surrounding hotel safety at a certain hotel in DC (check my IG Story for details). I'm so glad that this person was safe, and I wanted to create a quick visual for you all to have when . Please share this with all of your loved ones, and adhere to these tips when traveling.

⭐️ Carry a doorstop for every trip! I got my doorstop via Amazon, it will make noise if someone tries to get in from the outside. You can also get a doorstop from any Walmart/Target/Dollar Store etc. If you happen to forget your doorstop, simply place 2 glass cups on the door handle at night, if the glass breaks you know someone was trying to get in.

⭐️ Always share your location with a trusted person, and let them know when you reach your hotel. I also share my itinerary using the so they know my whereabouts during the trip. If you're staying at a hotel, share your room number, and if it is an Airbnb they should know the address/unit # as well.

⭐️ Do not post anything about where you are staying until you leave! You guys know, I don't share any room tours until I've left the area. People can search hashtags and locations and can find where you are. Also, people can use the EXIF data in your photo to find the exact geolocation of where the photo was taken. Be vigilant!

⭐️ Whenever I check into a hotel, I ask the staff to write down my room number and ask them not to say it out loud. Someone could be hanging around the lobby and listening in. I also get 2 keycards and put another name on the room so they won't know I'm there solo.

BONUS TIP

Watch out for package deals especially when traveling abroad. Sometimes Airbnb hosts will offer to set up your rental car, excursions, airport transfers, and more. I don't recommend this because they have too much control over your schedule, they could potentially try and rob you when you're away. Use your better judgment.

● It is better to fold than to roll your clothes. Linen and cotton crease easily, so you can just fold those.

● Put the heaviest items at the bottom to prevent your suitcase from tipping over.

● Place small items like socks inside shoes to save space.

● Carry digital documents e.g. maps, traveling guides, reading materials.

● Use packing cubes/ smaller packing bags to arrange your suitcase.

These hacks will help you travel light. Fun fact, consider carrying a certain color gradient to reduce the clothes you carry.

Which hacks do you swear by?

Let’s take it back!

Today’s feature on community engagement focuses on Morocco.

Villages in Morocco such as the Zagora village lack clean piped water. The water they manage to get is unhealthy and leads to a high infant mortality rate. On our last trip, we donated clean water.

The 3rd slide shows some of the travelers we had to Morocco.
