Here’s a poem I wrote about my travels back home! We visited the Lake District and the wonderful Beatrix Potter’s Hill Top!
Enjoy. 😉

BEATRIX POTTER AND HILL TOP FARM

Walking under the bright blue sky
On a warm afternoon,
Along the lanes where she once walked
Past cottages and tea-rooms.
Buttercup meadows, flocks of sheep
My heart is soaring high,
Miss Potter’s world and all her tales
Were right before my eyes.

Entering the green picket gate
And up the old stone steps,
A cottage garden on both sides
So sprawling and well-kept,
Rhubarb and Sweet Wisteria,
Roses, Forget-Me-Nots,
I imagined Peter Rabbit
Peep through the flower pots.

I peeked around the garden wall
And saw a hidden path,
A green door, a secret garden?
I couldn’t help but laugh.
The kitchen garden was enclosed
By six-foot stone brick walls,
This place where rabbits wear blue coats
Her ‘little books’ enthrall.

Sketching plants and animals
This place inspired her so,
Tales of bunnies and all their friends
Where herbs and veggies grow.
Flopsy, Mopsy and Cottontail
Run through the garden trails,
Tom kitten and his sisters played
On walls and garden pales.

The two-story pebbly grey house
The famous Hill Top Farm,
Reveals the way she lived her life
Its quaintness and real charm.
Her spinning wheel and cast iron range
Nearby her straw hat hung,
Her farmer clogs lie on the floor
As if she wasn’t done.

A time capsule of Potter’s life
Full of her favourite things,
Including farms and nearby lakes
Landscapes and all it brings.
Preserving such a way of life
This wondrous place is ours,
Thanks to Beatrix Potter we can
Roam for hours and hours!

ST. MICHAEL’S MOUNT 🇬🇧
Rising up from the azure sea
Perched high on craggy rocks,
An ancient mount lies silently
A castle sits atop.
Serene and still, so picturesque
An island so renown,
A majestic sight, so statuesque
A jewel in Cornwall’s crown.

The ancient cobblestone causeway
That glistens at low tide,
Emerges from the sea of waves
A pathways radiant guide.
A tidal island in Mount’s Bay
The sun and moon possess,
The dawning light, her sunbeam rays
Night shadows do impress.

Myths and legends uncovered here
Secrets and stories impress,
The Archangel Michael did appear
To fishermen in distress.
A clash of rocks he saved them from
The patron Saint he is,
The island’s great phenomenon
Pilgrims feet follow his.

Another Cornish old folklore
A giant and his keep,
Where Cormoran would wade ashore
To sn**ch the cows and sheep.
A young courageous boy named Jack
Dug a pit so deep,
A blow of his horn, to his trap
The giant fell in, one sweep.

Immerse yourself in history
A thousand years or so,
Where wars go on for centuries
And pilgrims come and go.
Within the castle walls you’ll learn
It’s not all fairytale,
Turrets and towers at every turn
And cannons at large scale.

Wander through the terraced garden
Exotic plants you’ll see,
Blossoms full, a place of arden
Rainbow hues, so heavenly!
Climb up the winding Pilgrim Steps
Don’t miss the giant’s stone heart,
Enjoy the vistas and reflect
Its fascinating past.

The little harbour is so quaint
At high tide boats stand by,
To the shores while time constraints
The sailors do comply.
A living working community
This island has become,
Their homes lined up so beautifully
The islanders’ are one.

The rocks surrounding Pottenstein, a village in Franconian Switzerland, Bavaria, are aflame. Marking the eve of Epiphany and Epiphany - Three Kings Day, on 5th and 6th January.

Part of a procession that has been taking place for over 200 years, celebrating the end of Ewige Anbetung, the Catholic celebration of "Perpetual Adoration".

A candlelit procession moves through the illuminated village after nightfall, while around 1,000 wood fires burn around it and high up in the surrounding mountains.

The Catholic celebration and procession go back to 1759, the Lichterfest, Festival of Lights, began in 1905.

It is Twelfth Night, and tomorrow Three Kings Day. Epiphany.

The final hours of the Advent and Weihnachten season, an end to Christmas celebrations, and in Germany a mixture of Tradition, Charity, Religion and Folklore.

And this is a section of the Anbetungs Fenster, Adoration Window, in Cologne Cathedral.

One of Die Bayernfenster, leaded glass windows, given by King Ludwig I of Bavaria to mark the 600th anniversary of the laying of the Cathedral foundation stone, and unveiled on 14/15 August 1848.

This main section combines two events of the birth of Christ... the Adoration of the Shepherds and Adoration of the Magi.

The Bavarian coat of arms and founder's inscription of King Ludwig I, from 1846, are on the 'columns' at the lower corners of the picture.
