SCUBA Connecticut Its all about underwater adventure! Learn to SCUBA dive with SCUBA Conn! At SCUBA Connecticut our focus is education, not marketing.

We're not here to sell you equipment. Unlike other courses designed to get you in and out as quickly as possible, we take the time to make sure that every student is thoroughly prepared for open water. Our passion is to teach you to dive in comfort and safety, rather than simply to sell you dive gear.

Seven reasons to SCUBA dive!

Good news regarding the deep wrecks off Key Largo!

We went diving again yesterday for more recon, and what a difference a couple of days makes! The ship wrecks all look great, Duane, Bibb, Benwood and Spiegel Grove all fared very well with a couple of minor changes. As objectively as possible, we wanted to comment on the state of our shallow water reefs after Hurricane Irma. On one hand, we have limited information, as we are not scientific divers, but on the other hand we are in fact divers who know these reefs like the back of our hand. What we observed on our dives to Molasses and French Reef, were definitely reefs that were hit by a hurricane, but not nearly as damaged as they could have been by a storm of Irma’s size, and for that we are lucky. Other reefs like Key Largo dry rocks look like they had hardly been touched. While soft corals, and sea fans have become less abundant on some parts of the reefs, due to the storm, they are quick to return. There has been displacement of sand, but with tides and currents it is just a matter of a little but of time this to return to normalcy. Finally, there have been some minor structural changes to the reef, and some loss of coral life, but we are happy to see there is still high profile corals structures at each reef, with room for new growth. We were very happy to see numerous nurse sharks, turtles, and rays as we went on our dives. Corals reefs are able to come back after hurricanes, with time. The ocean off the coast of the Keys has changed after Irma, as to be expected, but with time we hope to see it fully restored, and we hope you will come down to explore as new life grows!
Stay tuned for more information on our beautiful reefs as we share what we are learning ever day!

Greetings Divers!

I don't know about you, but I've had it with this dreary New England winter! I can't wait to get to warm, blue water!

In just 30 days we will be winging our way to the beautiful Florida Keys for our Tenth Annual Florida Keys Dive Week! You can come too! Let's go diving!

We're going down February 18th through 25th and will be staying at Marina Del Mar in Key Largo and diving with Rainbow Reef Dive Center.

We have arranged for an exciting series of dives from the Christ of the Deep statue, the wrecks of the "City of Washington" and the Benwood, Molasses Reef and the USCGC Duane and the USS Spiegel Grove in Key Largo down to the USNS Vandenberg in Key West. Most dive sites are only a short boat ride away from the dock.

The average water temperature in Key Largo in February is 75+ degrees, and as I write this is 77! Dive site depths range from 15’ to 110’ and the visibility can range from 30’ to 100+’.

Advanced certification will also be available- an excellent opportunity to see the famous deeper wrecks, including the USCGC Duane, the USS Spiegel Grove and the USNS Vandenberg and the USS Spiegel Grove, to experience the wonder of a night dive, and to learn additional advanced diving techniques. NITROX certification can be earned as well, to double your bottom time. Again this year, we are offering the NAUI Master SCUBA Diver course, the highest level of recreational diving certification! So not only would you be enjoying a great diving vacation in the Florida sun, you could advance your diving skills.

If you look around on the various travel sites you'll see that hotel rates in the Keys have increased tremendously. We will be returning this year to Marina Del Mar where we stayed for the First and Third Annual Dive Weeks, and are very pleased to report that we have secured studio suites at an amazing rate!

Studio suites feature fully equipped kitchens, two double beds, a pull-out sofa, free WiFi, and continental breakfast. Skippers Dockside is an on-site, waterfront restaurant serving fresh seafood for lunch and dinner. Guests can enjoy live entertainment while they dine. Sharky's is right next door.

The "Best Available Rate" for these suites is $314 per night on their website! After lengthy negotiations, we have secured our suites for a very deep discount below the "BAR", with no additional charges for "resort fees", the same as we paid last year, at a much better hotel. BUT, DO NOT CALL THE HOTEL! To get our rate you must get your reservation number from us. We have agreed not to publish the rate on a public site, so give us a call for details. For photos of Marina Del Mar and a studio suite go to: https://www.meetup.com/The-Southern-Connecticut-Scuba-Meetup-Group/photos/27522936/

Rooms are filling quickly, so please give us a call ASAP to confirm your reservation.

For more information, as well as photos from last year and previous years, see our site at: http://www.scubaconn.com/index_files/Florida_Keys_Dive_Week.htm

I look forward to another great week of Florida Keys adventure! Just give us a call to discuss certification level and equipment needs and we will arrange everything for you!

Yours in Keys diving,
