It's jacaranda season and we are so happy! 💜
In Mexico City, the jacaranda trees hold a significant cultural presence, reminiscent of the cherry blossoms in Washington, D.C. Initially, the idea of planting cherry trees in Mexico City was discarded due to unsuitable conditions, leading to the introduction of jacarandas by Japanese gardener Tatsugoro Matsumoto.
These trees bloom annually in late February, transforming the city with their vibrant purple hues until March and April.
The legacy of Matsumoto's vision lives on as these non-native jacarandas have become an integral part of Mexico City's landscape, symbolizing a blend of cultures and traditions.
The jacarandas not only beautify iconic sites like Chapultepec Forest and the Central Alameda but also reflect Mexico's history as a melting pot through their arrival and enduring presence in the city.

Did you know that World Anthropology Day is celebrated on the third Thursday of February every year? This year, it falls on February 15, 2024.
The American Anthropological Association (AAA) established Anthropology Day in 2015 to promote the field of anthropology and raise awareness about its significance in understanding human diversity, cultures, and societies worldwide.
Initially called National Anthropology Day, it was changed in 2016 to World Anthropology Day to reflect the global nature of the discipline.
Anthropology is the scientific study of humanity, covering human behavior, biology, and how human societies function. It helps explain the origins of humans and what makes us unique as a species.
Anthropology Day is an opportunity for anthropologists, students, educators, and enthusiasts worldwide to engage in activities that highlight the importance and relevance of anthropology in addressing contemporary global challenges, promoting cultural diversity, and fostering cross-cultural understanding.
So, take the time to learn something new about anthropology, discuss anthropology with others, and share information about the holiday with friends and loved ones on social media! 🙌
