Over the next few weeks I will be sharing my experiences traveling to Walt Disney World and Disneyland with my first mouseketeer. These posts are written and shared to help prepare you for your own magical vacation with your child. If you have any questions please ask! Leave a comment, give me a call or send me an email

This first post I talk specifically about nursing and the ways I figured out how to best keep my baby fed and (most importantly) happy!
Nursing/pumping in Disney
My son was nursing when we went on our trip and while Disney has great baby centers to visit for those times you need to feed your baby, those areas are only in one part of each park (I'll list those areas at the bottom of this post).
Depending on how comfortable you are nursing in random areas of a busy theme park, it is easy enough to find a bench to nurse if you are too far from a Baby Care center. Or do what I did and find a quiet, shady out of the way area to nurse your baby, there will still be foot traffic but less than you would find on Main Street.
While in Disneyland at Galaxy's Edge, with my newly turned 1 year old, I thought I had found this great out of the way spot to nurse. My husband and family had just departed for Smugglers Run and I noticed a ramp off to the side that had no one around. I settled us in the corner and as we were doing our thing who comes walking around the corner and up the ramp? Storm Troopers. Two Storm Troopers started marching towards me and my covered nursing toddler! It's hard to tell what they are looking at but the tilt of helmets indicated that they saw me sitting next to my stroller and were charging right towards me. Until my toddlers little feet shuffled out from under the nursing cover. I will never forget the sudden upward tilt of helmet and sharp turn up the ramp and away from me! I wish I had the foresight to record it but I only have this lame pic of them walking away to relive this memorable moment.
I think the best tip I can give to a nursing mama is to practice nursing while standing. Now this might not work for every mom/baby but if your child doesn't need long sessions then this is really going to help you. Because when you've already been standing in line for Jungle Cruise for 45 min you're not going to want to leave the line to nurse!
I use a cover to help keep my little from getting distracted, so if you don't use one before your trip, practice at home. Especially if you have a little one that gets distracted easily! Not everyone likes to use a cover and that's ok, you and your baby need (and should) nurse in the way that is most comfortable for you.
Side bonus to having a cover in your diaper bag, if you get soaked on Splash Mt or Grizzley River Run your cover makes an excellent skirt! Yes, this happened to me and of course the one time I want to get some sort of clothing souvenir at Disney I couldn't find anything!
For the mamas who pump, Disney has you covered! Those baby care centers are going to be your breast friend (too far?) as they store your pump for you and provide sinks to clean your equipment. Not to mention a quieter area to just stop, relax and collect yourself during a busy day! I would highly suggest careful planning when you are pumping as you want to make sure you aren't too far from the baby care center when you need to pump.
Baby Care Center locations
Magic Kingdom - the entrance is behind Crystal Palace restaurant
Animal Kingdom - next to Creature Comforts. This one is set back behind the building and currently (2021) is behind a Disney Vacation Club stand.
Epcot - this one is located in a building right before you enter Mexico.
Hollywood Studios - on the left when you first enter the park.
If your little one is ready to start eating solid food around the time of your vacation, my personal recommendation is to wait until after your trip to start spoon feeding, baby led weaning or anything else. Disney is not the place to start experimenting with something new! My son was ready to start baby led weaning a couple weeks before we left but I decided to wait to try any food until we were back home and I'm so glad we did, keeping our regular food routine made our trip that much easier.
One last thought that is very important, make sure you are staying hydrated! Florida gets hot and humid, keep your fluid intake going to keep your milk supply up.
