My City at Peace My City At Peace addresses the immediate, systemic, and structural causes of violence in our communi My City At Peace works on three distinct areas of focus.

We are Developers and seek to build housing and commercial space that directly addresses the wealth gap that exists in our country. We bring home ownership within reach of local residents that have been historically disadvantaged and often priced out of their neighborhoods as violent crime goes down. We Train and Prepare local clergy and other community leaders to take direct action to stop violen

ce where it is happening. This involves preparing local leaders to engage and intervene with those committing acts of violence - on their terms and on the streets. We provide Consulting Services to developers seeking to strengthen their community core and rebuild the social environment to match improvements to the physical structure so that neighborhoods are stronger and more cohesive. OUR MISSION
The urgency of new solutions
We find ourselves at a critical moment in American history; a moment where we can choose to find new solutions to violence and build strong, vibrant communities and strengthen relationships across all boundaries. But, to make cities safer, we need to do things differently. We need to engage the entire community, including the disenfranchised. To sustainably address safety deprivation in our communities requires both the ability to stop violence in the immediate moment and to build a viable infrastructure for residents who have been economically sidelined to reap the benefits of making their own communities safer and stronger. Our focus is on a different approach to financing these aligned but divergent efforts. This approach is one that allows us to seek a path of wealth generation and doesn’t ask already strapped cities for money they don’t have or take money from the finite charity pool. Our approach is proven to reduce violence in cities
Our program, developed through the efforts of Rev. Brown over the past 25 years, has proven successful in bringing peace to cities. Our approach works. Our unique community-based solution builds alliances between traditionally conflicting constituencies to find peace and the end of the era of violence in our communities. We succeed because our approach is local, based on the relationship of the community with its police force and the ability to see local gangs as part of the solution to violence reduction. Our success has brought tremendous social and economic value to these communities. One of the most visible steps in our process is called Season of Peace (SOP). The Season of Peace (SOP) program is a negotiated agreement to halt all violent activity for a defined period. SOP interventions have been organized in several US cities since 2015. SOP requires grass-roots engagement and preparation of faith and community leaders, law enforcement leaders, and policy leaders focused on initiating practical and holistic direct action in violence reduction. Since 2011, we have convened practitioners in the work of violence reduction to share ideas, experiences and resources to execute initiatives around the country.

Check out the latest Washington Post story (video) - How Communities are using a public health lens to treat surging gun violence. MyCAP's Rev Jeffrey Brown was among those who contributed to the piece.

Many evidence-based community violence intervention programs have had proven results, but they’re not a cure-all. Here’s how they work.
