Camp Nessmuk Camp Nessmuk; it's is an idea... The philosophy of Camp Nessmuk. It’s not a place but an IDEA…
Camping Nessmuk Style or “Camp Nessmuk”.

For those of you not familiar with Nessmuk…
Nessmuk was the name of an Indian borrowed by his friend George Washington Sears and used as a pseudonym for his writings. Sears was a writer in the 1880’s. He wrote for “Forest and Stream” magazine as well as a book on camping and the outdoors, simply titled “Woodcraft”. Nessmuk was an advocate for self-guided canoeing through the Adirondack Mountains

and the designer of the “Nessmuk Canoe” a clinker-built cedar canoe weighing as little as 16 pounds but capable of floating two men with minimal gear. History best remembers Nessmuk by the knife he designed and carried. Recognized today as a “Nessmuk” style knife, it was a relatively small utilitarian piece. To put Nessmuk’s philosophy into one simple sentence, Travel light and enjoy your time spent in the outdoors. At Camp Nessmuk, we hold to that one simple idea as the basis for our outdoor experiences.
