📝 Recap | Ladakh · 6th July ‘24

“’The first is always special.'
Seven years ago, when I visited Ladakh for the first time, I never knew I would one day be leading a trip here. After being an Experience Manager with Vagabond; in a span of 2 years I have led innumerable backpacking trips and treks. But leading Ladakh was always on the bucket list.

Finally, the opportunity arose to lead these incredible souls on our experience to the land of high passes. It was an unforgettable adventure—from traversing picturesque landscapes and scaling high mountain passes, to driving through expansive pasturelands. We walked the entire stretch of the emerald-blue Pangong Tso, spent mystical nights under star-filled skies, witnessed the Pegasids meteor shower, and marveled at our galaxy. Visiting the Hanle observatory and seeing it up close was a surreal experience!

Within a week, strangers became lifelong friends, forging countless memories and engaging in endless conversations under Ladakh’s captivating night sky.

Ladakh, you beauty! You were, are, and forever will be special to me.

📝Recap | Of Fields and Forests (Monsoon Trek) • 30th June ‘24

“‘Of Fields and Forests’ - our first for this monsoon season and what a wholesome one it was!

Leading any event for Vagabond is fun because I get to meet so many new people and help provide them with an Experience that can motivate them to get out of their usual mundane life and explore the world a little more during the weekends or even otherwise.

Breathtaking landscapes, lush green fields, vibrant forests, a tiny waterfall at the end and a stream to sit cosy and savour your lunch - This one has it all. And you hardly break a sweat because there is no active hiking here! It’s ‘just’ a trail!

The group played its part in keeping the enthusiasm up at all times and soaking up the beauty of this region that always sees very little to NO crowd whatsoever. Fair to say, it was only US and that is the best part honestly! The fresh Monsoon air was invigorating and the sound of the rain on the leaves was super peaceful.

Monsoons have only just started. This place gets better every time I come here and I make it a point to be leading this one as it’s a great break away from my usual ‘Monday to Friday’ job.

Hopefully, I’ll be seeing you at the next one!”

The western ghat, like every year blooms into this beautiful shade card of green, with every shade just doing its job to create a beautiful scenery, but like I’ve mentioned this before, this trek will always be about personal victories the people connected to these stories.
From creating financial planning content for the needy, to doctors who are completing their bonds in Maharashtra and discovering Mumbai to people who have never eaten a Vada pav, the variety of interesting people I come across just reminds me why I like doing this treks on my weekends.”

Me: Just 5 more minutes

Most people on the trek with us this weekend were looking for an escape, away from the chaos to the quiet and in that fleeting moment -which honestly isn’t a lot- gave them exactly that.

Whether you’re traveling solo or with companions, standing atop a plateau after three straight hours of climbing, waiting for the sun to rise, there’s a split second where it’s just you, witnessing the most peaceful moment you’ve felt in a while.

And that’s what made this whole night trek experience with vagabond so enchanting, specifically to the point where the full moon guided us throughout the journey where even our torches felt unnecessary.

Not to mention those crispy marshmallows have never tasted better than in the chilly atmosphere amidst the warmth of people"

“9 years ago I took my first ever trek to Kalsubai as a participant. 9 years later here I’m leading one. Since then I have summited this peak thrice.
Summiting Kalsubai is always an exhilarating experience because every turn is different and challenging than the previous one. The most treacherous are the ladders, and to add to the thrill, there is a monkey security toll plaza, collecting toll in the form of snatching food and frisking you from top to bottom 😂
This time around I had the most vivacious young bloods with me. We reached the sub-summit by 4.15am. Had 2.5 hrs till the sunrise so ordered some maggi & chai, rested our legs & stood near a campfire as the cold breeze was gripping all of us. We reached the summit by 5.50am and all we could do was patiently wait for the sun to show up and bless us with warmth. The celebration that happens on the summit when everyone sees the slight orange sun’s head peeping out is a sight to witness & not narrate. I thank the Mountain God to have helped us finish our trek easily to the highest peak of Maharashtra.

Let me end this experience with this quote,
“The summit is what drives us, but the climb itself is what matters.”

These night treks take away the element of the sun beating you down, and the cool winds just help you regulate the tiredness one small gush at a time. But the final moments on the peak that you spend waiting for the sun, and when the warm rays hit your skin and you feel the reassurance of the celestial powers out there; those personal moments are beyond beautiful. The affirmations you make to yourself will be the ones you carry on for a long time. There is no better way to say it in words than the lyrics...

We've been climbing this plateau for almost a decade, and while we've scaled many more mountains in that time, this one's still our go-to night hike 🌙✨ The moderately challenging climb, and the beautiful forest exit makes for the perfect introduction to sunrise treks. The lack of forts, temples, and historical significance also makes this place less frequented by the seasoned trekkers. Our Story

Elton, Jinks, Nihar & Shannon graduated from St.Xavier's College, Mumbai in 2014, except Elton; he's way older, like wayyyy older. They all graduated Bachelor of Arts and there were loads of companies just lining up to hire them for their dream jobs. JK. So they had a lot of free time and a lot less to do. Shannon used this time to hone the fine arts of design, live performance and dressing well enough to make the rest of us look like Govinda. While Elton was a high flying office man; with the salary, the slick formals, the business ethics and all. Jinks graduated twice (History and Political Science). He's the most educated vagabond. His knowledge of history and political science will blow your mind. JK. On the other hand, try naming a character, a spell or any freakin' thing about Harry Potter that he doesn't know and they'll buy you new robes in September. Nihar, apart from mostly just existing in Jogeshwari, applied for an MA, played basketball and groomed his hair to look like Jon Snow's. Eventually Nihar and Jinks, fueled by entrepreneurial zeal (read: being broke) decided they needed to do something. They started with heritage walks. Within the first month they were joined by Shannon and Elton to organize the first Fields of Sound. At the climax of the event they all came together. Pun intended. Without them knowing a bond was formed... A vagabond.

Our aim is to design authentic & fun experiences for everyone. We focus on creating comfortable social spaces for like -minded people to find each other, and make lasting friendships. Vagabond also strives to inculcate among city-folk a thorough understanding and appreciation for community living through shared experiences.
