Good job, since this issue was reported by the telegraph late last year it would appear that they have succeeded in alerting the authorities in the region to the grave robbing activities that have been taking place on the wrecks in the are. Thanks to all involved.

The Royal Malaysian Navy’s (RMN) Naval Region Command 1 (Mawilla 1) has foiled an attempt by a group of Vietnamese fishermen to loot British World War Two warships about 60 nautical miles from Tanjung Gelang, near here yesterday. In a statement released today, Mawilla 1 stated that the fishermen wer…

A few images from one of our last dives on HMS Repulse in the 2014 season. You can see the new damage from illegal salvage activity in many of the photos including:
- Holes punched into the ship hull to plan explosives
- Blast hole into the engine rooms to remove prop shafts
- Prop shaft damage where shafts have been removed by use of explosives

Just one of the many bunker fuel leaks on the HMS POW

13/10/2014

Here's another short video of the ongoing salvage work on the HMS POW, you can see they have already removed the shafts and have also removed the suction gratings in preparation for blowing their way into the machinery spaces.
Please share these videos folks.

We have attached a short video of the ongoing salvage work on the HMS Repulse.
Since May this year they have removed all the prop shafts, gained access into the condenser room by blowing of the sea suction gratings dropping explosives into the suction pipes and blowing the bottom out of the ship.
Despite an article that was published by the Star online earlier this year detailing the impounding of the Hai Wei Gong 889 the destruction and stripping out of a wreck classified as a war grave continues.
http://www.thestar.com.my/News/Nation/2014/05/23/Sea-salvage-work-halted-Dept-sinks-its-teeth-into-vessel-illegally-stripping-wrecks-for-scrap/
Three times this year we have turned up at the Repulse and POW early in the morning only to scare off what looks like a fishing boat, these are actually the guys that are placing the charges and blowing the ships apart. When we dive the POW they run back to the Repulse and continue the destruction, on almost every dive we can hear the explosions which are only 8 miles away.

Here's our USS Lagarto movie from a few weeks back - what a symbolic wreck. https://vimeo.com/105843678

USS Lagarto sank in the Gulf of Thailand on the 5th May 1945 during combat. She rests upright and largely intact shrouded in fishing nets and the gloom of the thermocline…

AP Diving - Oxygen Cell supply

Due to interruptions in cell supply this year, steps have been taken to secure a second supplier. The cell from the new supplier, the same supplier as the Narked @ 90 cell, will have the designation APD16 and has a white label.

Accuracy of cells
While the Narked @ 90 cell and the APD16 cell are very stable they have an unfortunate trait in that once the Inspiration scrubber warms up from top to bottom, which is 15 to 20 mins after the start of the dive, the cells read 0.05 bar higher than the actual PO2
i.e. while the cells display 1.30 bar ( the setpoint) - the actual PO2, measured on a calibrated fast response external analyser, is in fact 1.25 bar.
Although undesirable, this trait is repeatable and reliable and so is easily compensated for.. simply by reducing the High Gradient factor slightly.

Typically reducing the GF High by 5 is sufficient: If you use 90 normally – use 85; if you use 85 normally – use 80 etc.

Trimix Deco Software GF High Values
APD14 APD16
95 90
90 85
85 80

If you have Nitrox decompression software you can achieve the same decompression safety level you are used to by changing the Conservatism level:

Nitrox Deco Software Conservatism
APD14 APD16
1 3
2 4
3 5
4 5

Extreme dives will require specific fore-planning and calculation of appropriate GF High values.

Cell mixing
It is quite in order to use a mixture of the two types of cell, APD14 and APD16, but please bear in mind the dominant two will determine whether you need to adjust the GF high or not. i.e. if you have two APD14s and one APD16 then you wouldn’t need to make the GF high adjustment.

08/05/2014

Techthailand have just kicked off the 2014 wreck diving season with 5 days diving on the Japanese battlecruiser Haguro and the cruise liner Sun Vista. This was our first visit to the Sun Vista and I have to say this is an impressive wreck which we plan to visit again in the future. We even had a visit from a big spotted fishy thing on the last day. We are.on our way to Singapore now and will post trip photos in a few days.
