Henderson became the second African American to earn an engineering degree from the University of Michigan. Henderson graduated with a degree in civil engineering in 1911. Cornelius L. Henderson was the second African-American graduate from the School of Engineering at #UniversityOfMichigan following the first mentioned was Fredrick Blackburn. one of Cornelius L. Henderson job sites was the Quebec Bridge; It was made of a riveted steel structured bridge that was constructed in 1907. This bridge was built Incorrect in weight capacity by the first time engineers resulted in the bridge collapsing, killing 75 Mohawk Indian Workers and 33 Civilians. In 1916, The Engineering Group Tried to Rebuild The Quebec Bridge Again, For The Second Time. Once again when the central span structure was being brazed; It fell again and this time killing 13 workers with 14 individuals injured. The Engineers couldn't figure out what kept causing this bridge construction to collapse. Francis McMath, was a very wealthy businessman who took over the Quebec bridge project, With his team of #Skywalkers and Engineer-Cornelius L. Henderson, joined forces in the construction task. The public and media are invited to hear Jordan, who was appointed by Mayor Mike Duggan on October 25, 2021, talk about his tenure and hundreds of history tours and lectures he has given over the past year. But as importantly, he will focus his remarks not on the violence and destruction that erupted in 1967 but on everything that happened afterward as Detroit recovered and continues to thrive. "The history you read in books is oftentimes not the history that is the lived experience of the people," said Mayor Mike Duggan. "When Rochelle Riley told me we needed a City Historian, I agreed and told her she need to find a historian who would tell the story of longtime Detroiters. Jamon Jordan is doing just that. He is filling a huge hole in the fabric of our community, and I couldn’t be more proud of his work." Rochelle Riley, Director of Arts and Culture, said Jordan’s work has been “a tribute to his lifelong passion for history – Detroit’s, America’s and the world’s.
