FREE Admission for Spectators!
Salem’s First AKC Dog Show in a Decade Set
For March 12 & 13 at Oregon State Fairgrounds
More than 988 dogs representing more than 100 different breeds have been entered and will compete in the Silver Falls Kennel Club‘s, AKC sanctioned Rally, Obedience and Conformation competitions Sat., March 12 and Sun., March13 at the Oregon State Fairgrounds and Expo Center, 2330 17th St. NE in Salem, OR.
Tips to Enjoy the Show
Spectator admission is free and so is parking! Do bring a chair if you want to sit awhile and wear comfortable walking shoes. Don’t bring your dog (we love them and you do too, but AKC rules do not allow dogs on show grounds unless they are entered in an event). Some unique activities are scheduled Saturday for puppies 6-9 months old and a P*e Wee Special for children ages 5-9 who can show a dog with an adult in the ring and take home a rosette.
What is a Dog Show?
Dog shows (conformation events) were originally intended to just evaluate breeding stock, but they’ve become much more than that. As a spectator, you’ll get to see dog breeds you never dreamed existed. There are over 190 different breeds of dogs and you’ll get to see the majority them.
Every Dog is Bred for a Purpose
These breeds were developed for specific purposes, from hunting to companion dogs (some of whom were originally bred to keep fleas off the high-born ladies by attracting them themselves). You’ll see great big dogs and little tiny ones, hairy dogs and one without any hair at all!
Grooming Exercise and Love
You’ll be impressed with how much time and care goes into the preparation of these dogs for the show (to say nothing of the time spent at home preparing them, feeding them just the right food, giving them just the right amount of exercise), and you’ll notice how the dogs love the show. After all, they get primped and get fed tasty treats and get to spend quality time with their people.
Want to Add a Dog to Your Family?
If you’re thinking about getting a dog, this is the perfect place to go. You’ll see lots of different kinds and you can talk to the owners who will be honest with you about what type of home is best suited for their breed. The people at the dog shows know just about everything there is to know about dogs!
The Silver Falls Kennel Club encourages you to go to the show and find out about purebred dogs and watch some tail wagging fun.
