The “rock” on our courthouse lawn anchors us to our legacy: hard working, straight talking, and kind people who appreciate nature, meaningful education, an common sense. This enabled our farmers, shopkeepers, and citizens to survive the last year and a half. Our ancestors’ vision allows us to share our natural landscape and the legacy of 31 preserved covered bridges. Our restored 1883 Train Depot houses our Visitors’ Center. MainStreet Rockville promotes a quaint and industrious lifestyle sustaining locals and attracting visitors from around the world. Arts & crafts, antiques, photography, metalwork, pottery, and woodworking are showcased during the festival and year-round. Autumn and “the frost on the pumpkin” attracts two million visitors to our Parke County Covered Bridge Festival. The 10-day festival is headquartered on our beautiful courthouse square beginning on the 2nd Friday in October. MainStreet’s Hometown Holidays (first Saturday in December) lights our Court House Christmas Tree. Santa, Mrs. Claus, and elves will host. The Art Association’s Home Tour happens midday. Antiques, retail merchants, boutiques, and gifts make shopping a delight. Gourmet and hearty comfort food and spirits suit every palate. February and March bring the maple trees, welcoming the Parke County Maple Fair. Local maple sugar camps provide syrup for our pancake breakfast. Maple deliciousness! Artisans! Spring erupts in gardens and flowering trees promising hope. Shops and merchants change merchandise and attract visitors with lighter faire for picnics, parties, and Memorial Day observances. MainStreet sponsors two summer yard sales and a June Cruise In. Our Farmers’ Market, open June through August, shares the bounty of local gardeners.
