Rhodes has had heatwaves and fires for as long as I can remember, but this time, I'm afraid, the fires are being used to push the Climate Change agenda. I agree that Climate Change is important, but this tragedy should not be over-dramatized to highlight it. The people who are suffering are not responsible for Climate Change. They are farmers and small business owners, not Energy providers!

The fires on the island are devastating, some properties destroyed and wildlife killed, BUT - it is not the whole island! We are fine, and The Beachcombers are fine. The only damage we are suffering is from booking.com, who decided, with no authority whatsoever, that our "resources are destroyed" so it is not safe to travel. Guests have cancelled because some idiot put a picture on FB of a burnt hotel, claiming it was in Lindos. Nothing in Lindos has been burnt. I wish people would get the facts and stop making a bad situation worse!

To all who love the beauty of Navarone Bay: Please help us to get this ugly water tank removed from the land belonging to the Spiritual Centre. It is ugly, does not have planning permission, and has no place beside this building and close to the road. Please send your full names and father's name - we will add you to a growing list of people who object to this ugly tank. Many thanks!

Today, at last, it feels like Spring down at The Beachcombers. The Mimosa trees are blossoming, and we heard Nightingales singing in the nearby trees. Lovely!

As the end of the season approaches, we prepare to say 'Goodbye' to our last remaining guests. It was a slow start, with many challenges, but in the end we were able to welcome new guests and some very special old friends. Many had postponed their holidays since the start of the pandemic, so it was wonderful to see them at last! Hoping for a more 'normal' season next year!

Great news just announced - as of 19th July, fully vaccinated travellers returning to England from Amber list countries will no longer have to isolate! Time to come back to Greece for some serious sunshine 🌞 😃!

Anyone travelling to the south of the island will be pleased to hear that the new bridge is finished and open to traffic. No more detours! 😀

At last we are beginning to see a few visitors around. There have even been some flights from the UK, although Greece is on the UK's Amber list, and travel involves extra measures and more costs (not least the cost of the PCR tests). The sun is not in lock-down, though - we have gorgeous weather at the moment. 😀

Rhodes has opened a new Vaccination Centre, so hopefully will accelerate the vaccination program for locals over the next few weeks. With luck, this should bring us closer to a place on the Green List.

The lockdown is beginning to ease, but there is still a lot of uncertainty around holidays. We understand why people are reluctant to commit their hard-earned money to a holiday that might not happen. For this reason, we decided to accept bookings without demanding deposits this year. Guests can pay for their stay 2 weeks before travelling, by which time they should feel confident that the holiday can go ahead. One less thing to worry about. 😊

It looks as though there may be a light at the end of this dark tunnel at last, so that we might be welcoming guests back to share the abundance of sunshine on offer in the Greek Islands before too long. I know many people are longing for that day. We must all take care for a bit longer so we can bring that day closer. It will be worth it!
