Walking in HIS gifts - a call to humility
Backstory: king Nebuchadnezzar believes he has built a large kingdom, by his power and his doing. He even sets up a golden statue of himself to be worshipped.
Then he has a disturbing dream
About a tree 🌲 being trimmed by an
Angel down to its stump and roots. Daniel interprets that dream for the King telling him that dream is about him and his kingdom.
Verse: “You will be driven away from people and will live with the wild animals; you will eat grass like the ox and be drenched with the dew of heaven. Seven times will pass by for you until you acknowledge that the Most High is sovereign over all kingdoms on earth and gives them to anyone he wishes.”
â€â€Daniel‬ â€4‬:â€25‬ â€NIV‬‬
Key takeaways:
- the most high is sovereign over all kingdoms on earth
- He gives them to anyone HE WISHES
What should our response be:
- humble ourselves: the gifts we have, are from God. The success we have had using our gifts is from God
- God can give gifts and “kingdoms” to anyone he wishes, we are not “special” per say, but it’s an honor to be used by God
- At any moment, all we have can be taken away. Don’t hold what we have too tightly. God is good, just, and sovereign so anything that happens to us ultimately passes through Gods hands and we should trust that, no matter how difficult. Much like Nebuchadnezzar, when he lost his kingdom
Prayer: God, thank you for the gifts you have given me. I know they come from you. Show me how to develop them more to glorify you. Help me not to hold what I have too tightly, and realize that I am being used by you, I have not built what I have, but you have built what I have through me. Thank you God.
