Sunset Las Palmas Studios has a rich history in the entertainment industry, serving as a creative hub for many iconic figures. Harold Lloyd, known for his silent film comedies, helped to establish the studios as a significant location in Hollywood. The presence of legendary filmmakers and performers like George Burns, Howard Hughes and Francis Ford Coppola further solidified its reputation. The fact that "I Love Lucy," one of the most beloved television shows in history, was partly filmed there highlights the studio's importance in television history as well. The transition of Desilu to other prominent locations, including Red Studios and Paramount, marks the evolution of production facilities in Hollywood, reflecting the changing dynamics of the film and television industry over the decades. It's fascinating to consider how such places shaped the media we enjoy today.

Approximately 6-years ago Tour Du Jour and Glitterati Tours documented this smoke plume from The Woolsey Fire as it spread through the Malibu area. This is approximately the same location as the current Palisades Fire. This vantage point gives viewers an idea of The Santa Monica Mountain Range and its many different communities along its ridge line. This short video was taken from Sunset Blvd and Laurel Canyon and looking west towards the Pacific Ocean with the neighborhoods of West Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Bel Air, Brentwood, and Pacific Palisades in between.

Where are the fires in Los Angeles, California? There's no simple answer since it's changing by the minute with our record-breaking Santa Ana winds. Currently, the worst hit area is Pacific Palisades (red oval on map) which stretches from the hills down to the coast. It is part of The Santa Monica Mountain Range (blue arrow).

This range consists of some of Southern California's most well-known neighborhoods. From the Pacific Ocean heading east we have Malibu, Pacific Palisades, Brentwood, Bel Air, Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, and the Hollywood Hills (gold star on map).

Other local fires include The Eaton Fire in Altadena which is just above Pasadena and about 30 minutes east of Hollywood, and The Hurst Fire in Sylmar. These are both in a different mountain range called The San Gabriel’s.

We can typically expect fires this time of year because of drought conditions throughout the summer and the strong wind gusts traveling through our many canyons. Sadly, we get the one-two punch when it eventually rains because the burnt-out areas turn to mudslides.

Our heart goes out to everyone affected by these horrific disasters. The wind should die down within the next 10 hours, and we truly won't know the scale of destruction until the smoke clears. Los Angeles is a MASSIVE city, but when catastrophes like these strike, it really does show how deeply we are all entwined as a community. Stay safe!

Just east of Hollywood and nestled between Silver Lake and The City of Glendale, a visitor can enjoy the quaint neighborhood of Atwater Village. Back in the early 90’s The Beastie Boys set up shop with their recording studio in the alley at Glendale Blvd and Larga Ave. Their space even had a skate ramp which they enjoyed in between pumping out incredible music, including their 3rd album, Check Your Head.

Atwater Village also has quite a bit of Disney history. The Original Walt Disney Studio was just on the other side of the LA River (yes, we kind of have a river). Walt and his animators would spend many hours at the nearby Tam O’Shanter which is still going strong since 1922. For Disney fans this restaurant is a must. Check out the Disney Nook with great memorabilia. You might even be lucky enough to sit at Walt’s favorite table… #31.

Also, fans of Mad Men will certainly recognize the bar inside The Tam O’Shanter, as it was used as a regular filming location for the series.

Look familiar? Think of one of the most popular shows from the 70's and a cool dude with a leather jacket and a motorcycle. This is the "Happy Days" house located in the heart of Hollywood...not Milwaukie, Wisconsin. All exteriors were shot here. It was easy for set designers to dress up the property with fake snow for winter scenes, but much tougher to hide California palm trees in the background before CGI and AI were commonly used. Interior shots were filmed just a few blocks away at Paramount Studios. With 90,000 seats to fill at The Rose Bowl, and an additional 800,000 folks lining the streets of Pasadena for the Rose Parade on January 1st, it's the busiest time of year in the Los Angeles area. Beverly Hills is only 16 miles west of Pasadena and the 90210 zip code will fill up as well. Glitterati Tours of Beverly Hills and Hollywood will certainly sell out daily between now and January 7th. It's official. The 2 big O's will be playing in The Rose Bowl on January 1st, 2025! Glitterati Tours welcomes The Ohio State Buckeyes and The Oregon Ducks to Los Angeles and the surrounding areas. If attending the game make sure to also enjoy the one-of-a-kind Rose Parade along Colorado Blvd in Pasadena. Bring a sweater. Early morning California temperatures will be chilly. Not the Oregon/Ohio kind of cold, but still crisp.

The holidays are here and that means our most popular attractions will be jam-packed with visitors coming to Los Angeles for the Rose Bowl Game and general sightseeing. For many, The Griffith Park Observatory is on the bucket list. Parking is limited at this venue and the backup on the narrow mountain road can be extreme. A great alternative can include taking an UBER/Lyft or taxi to The Greek Theater. From here, one can take a short walk up around the bend to enjoy the views and the observatory without the time-consuming traffic.

The world-famous Pasadena Rose Parade and Rose Bowl Game 2025 are just 12 days away on New Year's Day. Los Angeles looks forward to welcoming Oregon and the competing team of either Tennessee or Ohio State (to be determined on Dec. 21, 2024). It's a busy time in neighboring Hollywood and Beverly Hills. We recommend booking everything from hotels and restaurants to amusement parks and tours in advance.
