On a quest to find some cool and unique beanies I found myself picking up the needles to make my own! This combined with the realization that my career path had left me without all of my old creative outlets, meant that I didn't stop at one or two. Before long I found myself packing more wool in my luggage than clothes and knitting in every spare moment I could find! For the last couple of years I
have been knitting beanies for my friends, family and coworkers and even started knitting beanies for a charity auction that raises money for seabird and penguin research. There was so much positive feedback and with everyone telling me I should start selling them, I guess I finally decided to listen! In my 'real job' I have the ultimate privilege of exploring Antarctica by sea kayak with a few adventurous guests in tow. For almost a decade now I have been returning to the white continent and the wonders it has to offer never cease to amaze me. It is truly a unique and special place that finds a way into the hearts of all who visit (and even some who haven't!). Through my designs and knitting I hope to capture some essence of Antarctica, some aspect that reminds us and means something to us. My hope in putting it all into a beanie is that we can keep it close and share the meaning with others.
