Where to Stay

Death Valley National Park has multiple options for accommodations, ranging from budget to luxury.

There are 9 campgrounds located in the park.

There are four resorts located within the park ranging from 2 star to 4 star.

There are several motels located just outside the park in the gateway towns of Shoshone, Beatty, Death Valley Junction, and Pahrump.

The park is open year round but their season runs October 15 through May 15. Summer can be brutal in the hottest location in the US.

Winter - December through February is a wonderful time to visit with temps in the mid 60's for a high and high 30's for lows. It can be a perfect respite from colder parts of the country.

Spring also brings mild temperatures as well ranging in the 60's-70s. February through May is the best time to see the wonder and beauty of the wildflowers blooming in the desert.

Located on the southern California/Nevada border, Death Valley National park is the hottest, driest, and lowest national park. It is also the largest in the lower 48 states.

* It was made a National Monument in 1933 and a National Park in 1994. The park just celebrated it's 25th anniversary as a National Park!

* The park receives almost 1.75 million annual visitors.

* It has a Dark Sky designation, which means it is one of the best places to star gaze.It has one of the darkest skies in the US.

* The park was used for filming parts of the Star Wars franchise, it is Tattooine.

There are few places I love more than our US National Parks.

They are one of our country’s greatest treasures.

Visiting these parks is an amazing experience and it is on my bucket list to see all 61.

The beauty is, there is something for everyone in these parks from backwoods camping to luxurious inns.

As I head out to catch a flight to Utah for a funeral, I’m reflecting on how short life is.

And I’m counting my blessings.

I’m thankful to be able to go to this funeral without having to beg a boss for time off. Because I’m my boss.

I’m thankful for time with family I don’t see often enough.

And I’m thankful that when I get the smallest chance to travel and do the things I want to do, I do it.

We aren’t guaranteed tomorrow. So hug your loved ones and take that trip.

Whatever it is just go. Your chances may be fewer than you realize.
