Magical Sandcut Beach, BC.

Another image form Friday morning out at Sandcut Beach on Vancouver Island. This is a slightly different composition from my last image with a portrait format in a 4x5 crop and this time with my astro modified camera.

Such a stellar night out with very talented photographers Neil Dickie and Raj Deepak. Next time we will definitely mark the entrance to the trail, lol!

Lesson learned - this time of the year, the window to capture the Milky Way is small and Friday morning we were dealing with a moon that wasn't setting until 3:40 am and it continued to wash out the sky for another 20 to 30 minutes. With astronomical twilight beginning around 4:45, that window of opportunity was even smaller. My intentions were to shoot a close up image of the falls under the moon light and then track the sky. Trackers are great quality because you are using lower ISO with longer exposures, but because they are following the moving sky (It's actually the earth's rotation and not the sky that is moving), foregrounds are blurred and require a separate image for the foreground. In the end, I simply ran out of time to track the sky. I did, however, hastily stacked some sky shots.

EXIF - Composite/stacked/blended
Sky - Canon 6Da
Rokinon 24 mm 1.4
ISO - 3200
F - 2
13 seconds x 8 stacked for noise

Foreground - Canon 6D
Rokinon 14 mm 2.8
ISO - 6400
F - 2.8
30 seconds x 6 stacked for noise.

Moss Street bloom in Victoria!

What an incredible day on Moss Street in Victoria BC! Caught some great shots of the cherry blossoms during the day, but sunset really stole the show. This might be my favorite Moss Street bloom photo in the last 10 years—at least in my books! Just one of those moments where everything lines up perfectly.
