St Valentin was not at all a romantic feast!

The pagan origins of the Christian martyr of Bishop Valentin of Terni, celebrated on 14th February, are based on the Lupercalia.
The feast was celebrated by young priests called Luperci, devoted to god Lupercus in charge to protect the fertility of land and people.
Half-naked with limbs smeared with fat and a mud mask on the face;
only around the hips they wore goatskin obtained from the victims sacrificed in the Lupercale.
On the day of Lupercalia, two new wolves (young boys) were initiated;
after the goat sacrifice, the two new adepts were marked on the forehead by dipping the sacrificial knife in the blood of the newly sacrificed goats.
The blood was then dried with white wool dipped in goat's milk, finally the two boys had to laugh.

This ceremony was considered as an act of death and ritual rebirth, in which the "signature" with the bloody knife represents the death of the previous "profane" condition, while cleaning with milk (nourishment of the newborn) and laughter represent instead the rebirth to the new priestly condition.

They were then made to wear the skins of the sacrificed goats, from which strips were cut, so called februa or amiculum Iunonis, and used as whips.
After a hearty meal, all the wolves, including the two new initiates, had to run around the hill, jumping and hitting the soil with these whips to promote their fertility and whoever they met,
in particular women.
Originally, they offered their bellies voluntarily to obtain fertility, but in Juvenal's time, they stretched their palms of both hands to whiplashes.

On these ancient rituals to promote fertility and life, the Christianity build then the myth of Bishop Valentin through his martyr.

🥳 Get ready with masks, confetti and streamers … the in is around the corner and will give you the chance to experience the Majesty of the Eternal City dressed up in its joyful, folkloristic and entertaining personality.

Warm up the wheels! 🥳

Join the traditional sunset feast called on Shrove Tuesday, along Via del Corso, and take part of this collective carnival game. 🤟
What do you need to participate ?
Wear a mask and bring with you a candle of any shape and size, called the "moccoletto".
The goal is to keep the candle lit as long as possible, trying to extinguish that of others.

Whoever will not succeed and find himself with the candle unlit had to take off his mask.
We should re enhact this feast, inaugurated in 1773, symbol of the apex of Carnival before Lent.
By the way, inside the last aristocratic palace of Rome, Palazzo Braschi a painting hang in the galleries that immortalized this crazy event.

What time is it ?
If you ask me "what time is it?"
I’d say it’s the moment I am in.
In a way, time isn’t "out there" but inside me, constantly shifting.

It’s the feeling of now—
the present that stretches into my thoughts, my actions, my senses.
If you’re thinking about the past or future, then time could be that memory or that anticipation.
But in THIS very moment, time is whatever I perceive it to be—slow, fast, endless, fleeting—because my mind shapes it,
not just the clock.

Today, could be the first day of my year, my journey, a fresh start.
I could be looking at this moment as an opportunity for new beginnings, regardless of the actual calendar date.

This quality of time is a blessed time as it helps me to
feel ready for change, to align my traditions or personal milestones, to achieve a new personal goal or a significant life event.

And indeed it is, as I can take advantage of two importants events, the Chinese on the 8th Feb and the Ancient Roman New year on the 1st of March.

And where do I celebrate these two events if not in a city like Rome, where past and present intertwine,
where traditions of old and new are woven together like an eternal tapestry?

Come in Esquilino district on the Feb 8 to celebrate all day long with the chinese community the start of the Wood Snake year according to their lunar calendar.

Wait, there is much more!
It’s the first day for the religious year in Ancient Rome too !
On the 1st of March immerse yourselves in the heart of the Parco archeologico del Colosseo at the Vestal Virging house for the
🌟 Renewal of the Sacred Fire.

We will bring back to life at 11:00 or 3:30 pm,

It's seems yesterday, but it was March 44,
Caesar was about to begin a meeting with the Senate unaware of a conspiracy that would kill him, organized by a number of personalities related to the Senate of Rome, including the famous Brutus (Marcus Junius Brutus ) and Cassio ( Gaius Cassius Longinus).
The great Caesar was assassinated with several stabs while he was in the Theater of Pompey.
Rome is not only an outdoor museum but it's an open air historical stage ! ☘
The funny thing is that Caesar’s murder did not restore the Republic as the conspirators had hoped; instead,
it set in motion the rise of Augustus and the end of the Roman Republic.
This unpredictability teaches that even well-intentioned actions can have unforeseen consequences in the flow of history.
The conspirators, including Brutus and Cassius, believed they were acting in defense of Roman liberty and feared Caesar's rise to dictatorship.
This historical event invites reflection on how much inspiring can be the leadership of someone, the exemple provided by a single person.

"The longer you wait to realize the future you want, the less time you will have to live in it."
This sentence struck me like a bolt of lightning today.

I stopped to think, and I have to confess:
I have never been one to plan too much.

My mantra has always been: "Seize the day, live in the present."

If you follow me, you know, despite the fact that I am helping to plan your precious free time while in holiday in Italy,
I love living in the moment.

I learned that life, after all, is a continuous mirror.
Everything is energy. We are interconnected within a vast field and web of energy, linked through intricate frequency lines. The energy we emit is mirrored back to us through these lines, amplifying the power of our thoughts.
The universe finds a way to give us what we deserve (even if we don't always understand it right away).

And yet... this sentence made me think.

Time passes inexorably, and with each passing day I realize that making my dreams come true requires an extra effort.
A step that I cannot put off.

Now I ask you:
Do you also have a dream that you keep locked away in a drawer that you are putting off?

Who knows, maybe it's happened to you too...
But as far as I'm concerned, I've always felt like the black sheep of the family. 😅

Choosing to study and work to pay for my own freedom.
Choosing to graduate in architecture but follow new projects.
Choosing not to marry.
Choosing to leave my architect career for a passion, tourism.
Choosing to develop my own online project.
Choosing to be an entrepreneur in a family of salaried professionals.
Choosing to live and travel in Italy and abroad.
Choosing to be free to decide how and where to invest my time.

In my family, they didn’t always understand my choices, and because of that, I’ve often been seen as the black sheep—the different one, the strange one.

Nothing traumatic, though:
I’ve always had a good relationship with my parents and my brother, but ever since I was a little kid, it was always me and then them: two entities that loved each other but didn’t always understand each other.

Perhaps that’s why this passage by the German psychologist and writer Bert Hellinger struck me so deeply.

I want to share it with you:

“The black sheep of the family should instead be seen as the lion of the family.
It is a person born to seek and open paths of liberation for the entire family tree.

Those who, from childhood, have tried to break beliefs and deviate from the beaten paths of family traditions are often criticized, judged, and even rejected.
Yet, they are the ones who free the tree from repetitive patterns that have only brought suffering to generations.

Those who do not adapt, those who rebel, have a fundamental role within each family system.

With their transformative energy, they can repair the tree, detoxify it, and allow it to produce a new, flourishing branch.

Thanks to this person, the tree also gains new roots.

Their rebellion is fertile ground, their creativity is the water that nourishes, their determination is the oxygen, their passion is the fire that reignites the heart of their ancestors.

But in particular one, that I helped recently in exploring Caravaggio's artistic career.
The Master of Light, Color, Realism, Shadow, Authenticity, Not idealised composition,
can teach us much more than you think.

As everyone knows his unique approach to realism and dramatic lighting techniques set him apart from his contemporaries in the Baroque art movement in the late 16th and early 17th centuries.

His turbulent life, filled with conflict and controversy, kept him on the fringes of the social and artistic circles that should have celebrated him.
He was known for his violent temperament and involvement in numerous brawls!

Far from the refined halls of the elite, he often found himself at odds with the establishment, embodying the very spirit of the outsider artist.

His story is a reminder that true genius often lives outside the boundaries of conventional recognition, thriving in the shadows just as much as in the spotlight.
