A few years ago, I wrote about a couple I met traveling in Australia, who were arguing about whether to climb Uluru (Ayers Rock), because the aboriginal people of the area consider it sacrilegious to do so and that matters enough to some people and not to others. Just learned that as of 2019, it doesn't matter how you feel about it, because it's being closed off to climbers. Good news, in my opinion. (Also, shoutout to my friend Theresa Winters for being quoted at the end of this article.)

The long, contentious debate over the future of Australia's sacred Uluru is over.

Back in 2013, I wrote about how upsetting it was to see the national parks of Thailand so uncared-for. I've just learned that for the past 4 years, the government has been closing about 40% of the parks during the rainy season -- specifically in aid of conservation efforts. Excellent!

A different side to travel... Sometimes there's double the taxes. Today's post is a short, lighthearted, "tax season again??" kinda thing.

Tax season is upon us: a full quarter of my inbox is made up of emails about tax forms and official documents. Yeesh. The real let-down after the Christmas season isn't the returns of early January...
