Friday fun fact about me... since 2018 I have participated annually in a charity car rally, the Sh*tbox Rally raising much needed funds for cancer research, a cause very close to my heart and many others I know and love who've lost people to cancer.

The rallies tackle the outback in 2WD vehicles valued at under $1500 (hence the name of the rally), which I know isn't everyone's cup of tea, dust everywhere, sleeping in a swag & generally living outside of our comfort zones for a week at a time but as we say, "cancer is worse" and the dust is a small price to pay as we rally our way towards a cure.

Just this week I met with a supplier partner who offers Scenic Outback Adventures by AIR, visiting some amazing locations that we've also been fortunate enough to visit on some of our previous rallies.

For $5750 per person twin share, you too can experience some of the most remote and iconic parts of Australia on a three day Outback Adventure. Travelling in a private Cessna Caravan, you’ll enjoy a birds eye view of the incredible colours and landscapes of the Australian Outback.

Departing from the Gold Coast, fly west over 2,000km into the real Outback dropping into Birdsville, Lake Eyre, William Creek, Innamincka and Cunnamulla. These iconic Australian towns give guests a true taste of the Australian outback.

There are set departure dates in 2025, and I thought, what a great way for my followers to experience a bit of the rally but in more comfort!

Tailor-made WW1 Battlefield Tours with certified battlefield guides and historians who will research any family connections and seek out the resting place of any ancestors who may have fought and lost their lives in battle for you to visit and pay your respects.

Our own family spent 3 days on a tailored tour with them earlier this year and we not only visited the grave of my great great uncle (resting in a small community war grave), but we learnt so much more about this incredibly moving part of our history thanks to the slow-pace and knowledge of our guides.

As a mum, I know that planning travel to please the whole family can be daunting, you want to relax but you also want to give the kids a cultural experience and keep them busy as well. My own kids have grown up with my business, they fully appreciate that they’re lucky to have travelled as much as they have at a young age, and I know we’ve set them on an adventurous path as they venture out on their own in years to come.

Even now as teenagers, they do sometimes (ok, often!) roll their eyes when I suggest we don’t follow the crowd and instead head in the other direction to see what we can find, often these detours end up being the most amazing experiences, but sometimes we’re also just creating memories for our family to look back on.

In all my travels I've been very lucky to have experienced all levels of comfort, from camping under the stars with a Pygmy family, earning my keep in homestays and teahouses and kicking back in style at some amazing 7-star resorts and I'm proud that after all these years of travelling with my own kids, they realise there is more to a destination than what lies in the safety of the resort, returning home with a deeper understanding and appreciation of the culture of the country we've visited and I’m more than quietly proud to have built in them their own Wanderlust as they .

Have you got Europe travel FOMO?

It seems every second person sharing their happy holiday snaps is currently somewhere in Europe standing in a queue of people, which is not my idea of fun at all.

Did you know you can still travel to Europe outside of this peak travel time and have the same experience minus the crowds? Consider travelling from November through to March, it's absolutely fine, with the added bonus of lower prices, less crowds, no queues, more time to spend with locals AND you'll be supporting businesses during their down-time, it's a no-brainer for me, but shhhhh don't tell everyone or they'll all want to go!!

Well today I've seen it all... if supermarkets can now sell travel at ridiculously low prices and airlines don't pay travel agents commission to book bums on their seats, I ask myself "why do I still do what I do"??

This is my TENTH year anniversary as a small business owner, I started with nothing but a stubborn desire to be my own boss and knew that I'd need to throw my heart & soul at every booking to 'grow' my business.

Ten years on, I am lucky to have positioned myself (post-Covid comeback) to choose my clients and be proud to say "I charge for my time", if that style of service doesn't match your need, then that's actually ok.

I truly believe there is space for all types of traveller, those who want to go it alone and manage their own holidays, those who value price over experiences and literally just want to tick a country off their list by rushing through the most idyllic of destinations in less than a week....

AND then there are MY clients, the people I choose to work with who value my service and knowledge and trust that I'll piece together their itinerary sprinkled with little gems that I personally know and have touched myself.

This isn't about me, I am definitely not top of the tree when it comes to sales, but my 'why' is YOU, my clients, and making sure your hard earned holiday dollars and time away is memorable and that you'll come back and be proud to 'share' me with your friends & family..

24 hours in the life of a PTM.

My lovely expat client messaged late last night needing to urgently fly halfway around the world due to a critically ill family member, knowing she could have easily booked her flight via the airline website or another online aggregator, instead she chose to pay my service fee to help manage her booking so she could focus on other pressing issues.

I've been watching her domestic flight scheduled departure and due to Friday delays, worked out that she wasn't going to make the flight connection which would have added more to her stress, so I was able to VOID her ticket and book her on a later flight and help check her in.

Friday's are always fun with deadlines, but in times of need, without a Personal Travel Manager you really are on your own. I think you'd all agree, for an extra $90 it's worth having someone who lives & breathes travel in your back pocket.

I will relax as soon as I know she's through immigration with a compulsory airport bloody mary in hand

Hot off the press, it's 7am in the Serengeti, my lovely clients have woken to this view from their luxury camp and they're about to embark on a full days game viewing. I've never wanted to be anywhere else right now, alas a video will have to do, I miss the smells and sounds of Africa so much <3 Covid delayed this holiday by 3 years, and it very nearly didn't happen, I'm so glad we pushed on to build this dream safari, knowing that the best is yet to come.
