The hospices de Beaune

Hotel Dieu

What a nice visit of the hospital foundation from the Middle Ages ! The hospices de Beaune is one of the most prestigious french historic monument. Its flamboyant gothic architecture, its polychrome roofs and renowned vineyards make the musuem one of Burgundy 's gem. The hospices is also famous for its 60 hectares wine estate, producing prestigious wines.

Sunrise in my South Carolina garden… both southern and French influences come together in this special place near the coast - I’ve been renovating the gardens for a while when not in France… just a little ways to go, though gardens are always an ongoing adventure.
La Caroline du sud comes by her French influences honestly - French explorers settled just near here in 1562… lots of French place names remain - Port Royal, Beaufort… see stories for an old map of the French southeastern United States…
Meanwhile, I love watching the tides go in and out in the Lowcountry… and there’s something in bloom almost year round. AND you can’t beat the Spanish moss for effect (though it’s not Spanish and not moss!)… Bonne journée à tous! 💚🌿

One of my French market faves is the weekly Wednesday ‘marché’ in St. Rémy de Provence… made all the more lively by this street organ music recently… le Monsieur has the perfect voice to go with it, don’t you think? He enjoyed me filming him - and gave me a big wave when I finished. Thankful for wonderful moments like this in France! ❤️🇫🇷

Quite possibly the most BEAUTIFUL building in all of Provence - Le Pavillon de la Reine Jeanne at the foot of Les-Baux-de-Provence. Built in the 1500’s for the wife of the then Lord of Baux, it is a Renaissance jewel measuring only a few feet across. Le Pavillon was and still is one of the loveliest garden ornaments in France. Something to add to your travel notebook… 💜
(And it’s located just down the lane from Oustau de Baumanière , a favorite Provence restaurant and hôtel of mine since 1988!)

You never know what you’ll see at the colorful outdoor markets in Provence!
I always pop by the Friday market in Eygalières near St. Rémy and this recent Friday did not disappoint… I’m having a marvelous time wandering the market and along comes an Inès de la Fressange lookalike… Brunette, tall, thin , beautiful and stylish… Right in the middle of everything, she spies a fabulously huge straw hat… and proceeds to try it on… Swipe left to see the whole scenario. Le chapeau looks amazing on her but it’s a no go…
Hats clearly are on her mind as she tries on more chapeaux further up the way… Can’t tell if the husband or boyfriend approves the choices or not?! I think she should have bought the big hat…What do you think? 😉💛
PS I think she was Dutch!

Besides being a fun town to live, work or play in (I’ve done all three there!), Aix-en-Provence is an architecture lover’s delight… Fabulous 17th and 18th century mansions fill the center Old Town… built of the extraordinary yellow stone quarried near Aix for centuries… with magnificent elements such as this Baroque door… It gets my vote for the French door of the day - what about you? 💛😊
